is always about love or stalking?

Just out of interest, has anyone read 'Enduring Love' by Ian McEwan? I'm studying for A level English Literature, it's about a guy with De Clarembeaut's syndrome..... basically, an all consuming love for another man, who he is conviced is in love with him as well. Maybe reading this book has changed my perspective on the song? Anyway, I recommend the book if you haven't read it, it's a good read, although a bloody nightmare to study

I have not read the song, but I'd be curious as to why you think this is a stalker song. Even psychotic all consuming love is a far cry from becoming a stalker.

yeah, but I think it's important to know what is meant by 'picture'. You quote the lyrics, but you don't say what's meant by it.
The picture that made her say goodbye must be a special one, but which picture? Pictures that made them laugh and cry can be several pictures, but there can be only one which made her say goodbye. And that's the scene of him kissing with her friend. But the point is: there is no picture of that scene. Only a videotape.
And the other interpretation: at the end of the video Jack's making ravage, because he sees the painting, and therefore knows someone else has painted her naked. And then she leaves. So maybe 'the picture that made her say goodbye' is nothing else than the painting.

Not really. You keep referring back to the video (I suppose) as you say there is no picture just a video tape.

When analyzing the lyrics you should not think about the video at all, but focus only at the words at hand. The video is made a long time after the song has been written and is usually never a complete and/or accurate description of the song. Keep in mind the video needs to show on MTV, so right there you know that often the video doesn't have much to do with the lyrics of a song. So, don't look for clues in the video.

In that case, picture can mean several things. It can be photographs or just pictures you take in your mind - memories - she somehow found out something that made her break off with him. Personally, I don't know if it was that he was cheating or not - it could have been anything. It could have been him being a complete jerk at some time. It could have been that she had to marry somebody else due to a pre-arranged marriage (I am just throwing this out there). It is up to the listener to interpret what it might have been - whatever might make you break up with your girl/boyfriend.

And if I quote the words but don't say what they mean it is only because I have no idea what EXACTLY they mean. They are up for interpretation to each listeners own devices. The listener reads into them what they deem fit based on their own life experiences and view of life. Hence, I don't see the relevance of a stalker motive - as I don't read any references to something a stalker might do, only to what a broken hearted person would whine about.

was watching this left feels right today, and jons words were that people have assumed that its about love when in fact it about a stalker.
