Default Is Richie an underrated guitarist?

its been said by alot of ppl that he is, and i guess he sees himself as an undiscovered guitar player even. i personally think he is underrated, but the way BJ is going, his talents are being less used i reckon. i reckon martin taylor (jazz) is hugely underrated, he is superb.

well i dont necesarilly agree. hes not as well known as guys like hetfield and knopfler but alot of guitarists do know him and ive never had to fight his corner in an argument meaning ive never come across a bad word said against him.

the guy who used to teach me guitar had a mate who went on tour with martin taylor and gretsch sent him 3 guitars all worth £6,000 ish each for nothing on the ocndition he used them onstage with the guy. not bad eh.

Richie's not that much underrated as a guitar player. It's acknowledge that he is good by his peers. He just didn't bring as much to guitar as did others like Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton or Eddie Van Halen to name a few. And he'll never make legend like them. Maybe because he couldn't do it through Bon Jovi, but he didn't do it in his solo records either, even if the guitar parts are great, there is no real guitar "revolution". He's got good technic and a great feel, especially on the acoustic where he might have been better rated if he had had the occasion to play it more. I wish he'd put out a bluesy solo album with electric and acoustic, and his "soul" voice.

To me he is not underrated as a guitarist, but as an overall very good singer/player/song writer.

He is underrated in the public but not in the music biz. There are quite a few singers asking him if he would play on their album and a lot of bands talk very nice about him. Also the journalists from the guitar magazines don't underrate him. It's only the public. He is "the guitar player of Jon Bon Jovi" and nothing more. It's a pity but true.

Yes he's underated. I dont know why though but hes never mentioned in greatest guirtarists polls or in the same breath as May, Slash, Hendrix etc. Stranger in this town is one of the most underated albums ever.

I have to agree that Richie is underrated.

Even Jon said that he really admires Richie, and he admitted given the scope of the band, Richie doesn't get to show just how skilled he is.

(which is scary if you think about it........b/c he is already awesome!!!)
