he's not underrated actually but is a very good guitarist. As Chris said, those who know him in the business recognise him as an able guitarist.

My summary:

He is not overrated by music business and guitar magasines which DO recognise him as a capable guitarist and emotional guitarplayer... admittedly I think this is moreso for his carreer up to 2000...

He is overrated by Bon Jovi fans on the whole

Thats true of most groups of fans though isnt it. Im sure Queen fans believe Brian May is the greatest guitarist ever, same with Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Slash from GnR etc

but in many ways that is jons fault, or the managments!
why does soemone alway's point the finger at JON
This make s me crazy......

Richie tried the solo thing.... It really didn't work out.
JOn's solo did much better... well Blaze did.....
But Bon JOvi together is a great thing.....
Solo ... well sad to say, not to good.
These guy's TOGETHER ARE GREAT!!!!
But even my hubby says Richie is so under rated....
He's an amazing player.....

nothings jons fault anmd nothings the managements fault. hes the guitarist in the band, that means he sitsd back and lets the lead person take the spotlight which richie does.

thats how it works unless ur lead singer resembles cherie blair which doesnt apply to bon jovi.

I dont think richie is underrated as a guitarist but i think hes underrated as a singer and songwritter, He has a great voice and his album should have done loads better then wot it did. But i actually think jon is underrated

I think that he's underrated. Recently, I saw a couple of magazines, here in North America, with a list of Best Guitarist and nothing about Richie. Don't understand why. Maybe because BJ don't have the critics on their side

1)both Jon and Richie's solo albums are great...what do you mean tnot too good?

2)Richie's albums didn't do to well because they aren't COMMERCIAL at all, at least the first and because RICHIE SAMBORA is not such a well known name as jon BON JOVI.Even if it's a solo album , the brand BON JOVI was on Jon's album and wasn't on Richie's albums and i guess this made a difference.

however, if you ask any musician who he'd choose between Jon and Richie, he'll say RICHIE!

I think the whole band is underrated when considered as a part of pop/rock culture.

However, none of them is underrated when considered as a part of world culture in general. In fact, I think popular music itself is overrated as a part of world culture. And that's too bad. A lot of people out there who are big popular music fans are not well-acquainted with other aspets of culture. IMO They are deprived.

I didn't mean the Cd's aren't good,
I meant that they didn't sell good....
My mistake I should've pointed that out...
