The demo's also have the "miracles make believe"-part more than once.

Hmmmm! I've been eating "Golden Grahams" for years - in fact, it's about the only cereal I eat - I've loved it since they first came out with it and I'll probably eat it until they stop making it. Nope, no problems here!

Really. It's best to not go through and analyize the repeated lyrics. It's sorta depressing. You would be surprised at how many are simply cliches("Raise Your Hands" is the prime example of this where every line is a cliche) and how many times the band recycles its own lyrics. Just as a teaser to get you started look for how many times there is a direct line or variation of "live while I'm alive" or the "lie" "die" "cry" "try" etc rhyme.

It doesn't really bother me all that much. Just take the band for what it is and what it does well. The only frustrating thing for me is they are capable of so much more as they've proven.

The thing that bothers me is the double standard that exists in criticizing music. On "The Rising" Bruce must repeat the phrase "your kiss" about 50 times. When he does, it is poetic genius. If Bon Jovi did it then it would be taken as writer's block. Not that I'm complaining, if "Bounce" even comes within 50 yards of being as good as "The Rising" I'll be in some music nirvana.

Eric you are so right. There are more kisses, tongues and lips in the Rising and these were major topics of conversation on the Bruce board. Also, lots of repetative verses on The Rising which is not as common for Bruce. Sometimes I think the subject matter was so difficult that Bruce chose the simple repetition to be soothing. Yes, Jon uses a lot of the same phrases over and over- he also does it in interviews and in concerts. Can't fault him for lack of consistency- LOL! I actually think I would feel cheated now in concert if he didn't say those things at this point. Is Bounce as good as The Rising- my quick answer is yes but they are also apples and oranges. Both albums bring an updated sound for the artists and some new twists. Bruce's 9/11 material is more the stories of those who lived it- victims and survivors. To me the Bon Jovi 9/11 material evokes the feelings of that time and how the world has changed. Both albums are incredible achievements to me but will the critics bless Bon Jovi like they did Bruce- we all know the answer to that one.

I think Bon Jovi repeats themselves because they have this message that they want to bring through their music. (You know that positive attitude towards life thing. You can do with your life anything you want to. And so on.) And that message hasn't changed since they started. Also all artists (not just in music) who's been around for a while repeat themselves and other artists. That's okay. Our life in general is a one big repetition.

And the double standard thing that Jesse James mentioned definitely exists. Its like when most critics analyze records of Bob Dylan and Springsteen, they only concentrate on the good things in their records. When the critics analyze Bon Jovi records (not just Bon Jovi), they concentrate on the shortcomings and just do not want to see anything positive. That's very frustrating and totally unfair. Whatever, dudes! People know better.

LOL! I just finished eating a bowl of Golden Grahams and I couldn't agree more! I love your analogy, Rae

I have no problem with the repetition. I think they might be there for a reason, actually. Maybe they're meant as references for all the old-school fans. These are references only certain fans would catch. I like it.

Plus, you have to take into account the context of the song. One word can mean different things. If the guys DID pull out a thesaurus, as someone suggested, I think the songs might get a little silly. The guys are using words that people use everyday and can therefore relate to.

However, if all this really bothers you, try to look at each song as a separate experiance. The lyrics always make sense and have a profound meaning. To me, that's amazing writing and I'm not gonna question it.

Would you rather it be different? They use the word "love" quite often as well... The same with the word "God". It's music. The songs aren't always about the same thing... Words are words.. people repeat them in everyday life. I still don't see why people bring these topics up on these boards.. People here are too negative and always look out for the negativity in Bon Jovi. What about everything positive? What about everything that got you into the music and made you enjoy it more and more?

Artistic expression + Bon Jovi = magic

It's always the same thing - when there's something wrong with the band, it's Jons' fault, but when there's any postive's, it's down to Richie.
AMEN! It is funny how it goes like that.

Hey, check out "Santa Fe." Jon used the word "infiltrate" in that song. That's not one you hear sung very often. LOL
