It's time for Bon Jovi to grow up

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody on here, since this is my first real post.

BJ are not young anymore. They are in their 40's, and they won't be around forever. Now, up until (and including) These Days, each album they released seemed to show further depth and maturity. After These Days it was 5 years until the next album Crush, this seemed to be filled with pop-rock songs, that are designed to sell records. Crush did moderately well, although it didn't sell as much as the previous 3 studio albums. Two years later Bounce was released, which again was full of pop-rock songs, if a little more mature than Crush. As many people have commented, Bounce isn't doing well at all, and it seems unlikely that Bon Jovi will pass the 100,000,000 with this album.

I don't know if it was their intention to make two 'very commercial' albums with Crush and Bounce, in order to try and sell more records, and get back on top like they were in 1994 and 1995. Whatever their intention was, it seems Bon Jovi will not produce big selling albums anymore, and I think they shouldn't even try anymore. Whenever the next album is released, I believe that it should be a collection of adult rock songs, that are mature and have messages. By the time the next album is released, the members will probably be approaching their mid 40's to early 50's. Who is going to take them seriously if they produce anthems like 'Everyday' and 'It's My Life'?

The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and other 'older' rock groups don't rely on album sales anymore to retain their popularity. They rely on touring, and having a reputation for putting on a good show. Bon Jovi should follow suit, and put out a meaningful album, with good song writing; they shouldn't write a song with the intention of it being a big hit, which seems they did with Crush and Bounce. It's time for Bon Jovi to grow up.

My post was not putting the band down, I wasn't trying to insult them. I understand that your first language isn't English, so maybe you didn't realise that. Please don't resort to name calling just because you thought I was saying something bad, it shows how immature you are. You have to realise that, because English isn't your mother tongue, then you may be interpretting posts wrongly, resorting to name calling just makes you look the fool.

Anyway, I am willing to forgive you this time, but please think before you type in future, and I will look forward to reading your future posts.

I agree with some of your points but not with others. Crush is filled with pop-rock songs , i agree to certain extent. After the long break, what BJ want to do is to fit in the current scene and they did. With "Crush", BJ got new fans.

Younger ppl know that Bon Jovi is a rock band and they can still rock!! (some call them pop-metal or they are not rock band..whatever, it depends on your definition of rock.)

And Bon Jovi is always been commerical..even in 80s and 90s, while big hair and rock are main stream.. And I think songs in Bounce and even in Crush have messages. It is not like Offspring or some other bands whose lyrics are so cryptic or no messages or no sense at all.. Even if you look at the rap songs that are so popular these days, they don't have much message except sex, drug and gun fights.

Aerosmith isn't doing anything to get into mainstream?? You are kidding right?

OK, maybe Aerosmith to still try to be too commercial, but they don't do it by writing big, loud, anthemic songs. BJ do still do this, but I think they are getting too old to be taken seriously doing it anymore.

Bon Jovi is a commercial band. If they were to change their style of music just because people wanted them to, that would be stupid. And they do tour worldwide. There's not much difference between what they do and bands like Aerosmith do. I really don't see your point.

I think your points are completely ridiculous. Bon Jovi isn't trying to be anything other than what they want to be. The fascination with album sales dumbfounds me. Who cares in this day and age about album sales? Ever heard the expression Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

The album is doing just fine. It's not gonna sell 30 million copies like Slippery or New Jersey. It will go platinum in the US as well as plenty of other countries. They WILL pass the 100 million mark on this albim and every show on the tour (at least in the US) is sold out.

Give the guys a break already. Jesus, after 20 years with the success they've had, you'd think people would lighten up a bit.

Bon Jovi showed with These Days and Faith (possibly Jersey) that they are capable of producing so much "better" than pop-rock songs :/

Im not slating songs like Its My Life because they are good songs..but perhaps they just need to rediscover that style of writing

I think Penrose makes some good points. I disagree however that Bounce does not have mature songwriting- I think there are songs on there that do such as Joey, RSOW, Hook Me Up, You had me from Hello, Love me back to life. I think Bounce is up there with These Days- but it also has songs with more commercial potential and also harder rockers. But where I do agree is that they should not worry so much about the charts- they are a legendary band like the Stones and Aerosmith who will always sell out on the road. But hey, the teens became fans with It's My Life and what is wrong with catering to that market too? How many classic rock bands also get airplay, even if it is too limited for our tastes, on Top 40 radio? Bon Jovi wants us all- older fans and the next generation and there is nothing wrong with that. But should the chart appeal fade I do agree they will continue to be a sought after concert experience like the Stones. Good first post!
