The problem is SWW doesn't stand anywhere near Back in Black.

Bon Jovi in their catalogue (which is pretty strong overall) don't have a record that deserves to be replicated over and over. SWW was good for its time. Never I 'd not call this record excellent. IMO if Bon Jovi want to be the next Stones, they should keep on trying and searching.

This is all a matter of taste ofcourse, but I do get your point. In my opinion SWW is far superior above Back In Black, simply for the fact that I can't get into the music from AC/DC. And AC/DC has got Back In Black, but they have been repeating themselves and never got that good again on any album they released after it.

Slippery was good for it's time yes, but the same for Back In Black. Every album that gets that big will become a classic. Thriller wouldn't have been that succesfull if it would've been released right now, SWW wouldn't, Morning Glory from Oasis wouldn't, all albums become classics because they are released at the right time. At least that's what I think.

You know I'm not a big fan of AC/DC either. Still when I listen to Back in Black (and I don't do it often but when I do) my reaction is "Wow! This deserves replicating!" I don't have this reaction when I listen to SWW even though I'm a big Bon Jovi fan.

Also a classic is a classic but classics are different. In my opinion (and it's only my opinion) SWW became classic only because it MADE Bon Jovi. Meaning if Bon Jovi had quited in 1987, this record would have been soon forgotten. But since it started this amazing band - it's remembered. With Back in Black it's not like that. It's just a brilliant record. Sort of like Nevermind by Nirvana, or Appetite by GnR.

I do agree with your point that all records are good for their time. However I still think that if Nevermind or Appetite or Back In Black were to be released today, they'd be probably as successful (or almost) if they edit them a bit. No songs need replacing there. With Slippery it may work too if they change several songs and edit a sound a bit. But I repeat some songs should be taken off.

That`s correct Chris..I`ve seen a lot of people moving on to other bands...don`t mind. I`ll stick to my guns though.

Two things I want to address.

1. I don't listen to one band and what I mean when I say "find another band if you don't like what Bon Jovi is doing" is that there are a lot of music out there and if you don't like one act, keep searching until you find something that you do like. I've bought a lot of CDs over the years that have not been taken out of their case more than twice, but my opinion of their work is irrelevant to whether a band should retire.

2. I'd have given up on Bon Jovi a long time ago if they kept making SWW over and over again.

Becky

Besides, if they did make another album that you considered great, i guarantee you'd soon change your mind about wanting them to retire

I can't believe you guys are having this discussion. The last three albums weren't that bad were they?? I find it good for them they they are experimenting with new sounds and techniques, it is the 2000s, not the 80s. The band has grown up with the times and are at a new place in their lives. You can really hear and feel the difference in Crush, it was something fresh and new to start off a new era or century. The band sounded new, but there is still a taste of the old Bon Jovi that we all know and love. If they still made 80s music, I don't think they would be as popular and as big as they are now. Almost all of their fans would be middle-aged women who are stuck in the 80s. Now, there is a mix of older and younger fans and I think the numbers are pretty well balanced. I know lots of young people some as young as 10 who say that Crush or Bounce is their favorite album. This then leads them to check out their other albums. It is good to see generation after generation finding the band. It is also great to see that they are risk takers and have the balls to do what they have done.
You don't have to like their newer stuff and can prefer the older Bon Jovi, but don't you think to say that it is time for them to retire a little to extreme? Who are the you to say they should retire just because you don't like the albums or songs they're making. I think the band write songs and make albums more for themselves than for the fans, and I think that is a sign of a true artist. Sure they love the fans, but I think it goes deeper than that. They should only retire when they feel the need to and when they don't find music as a big part of their lives anymore. I believe they still enjoy what they do, but they have other things like families to keep them occupied and that might be why they don't seem as dedicated to their music, but they still find the time for it.

KEEP THE FAITH, PEOPLE! I know I am.

Frankly,
Bounce and Crush both sounded fresh for the Band.
I enjoyed the new directions they took with both.

its funny because I created this post because I wanted to create a discussion and Sambo Chris gave me what I want:

I want a GOOD album. no andreas carllson, no more "everyday", no more "stupid-nosenselyrics songs". Bon Jovi are killing their music (see This Left feels right". Its time to do a good album.

Of course I will listen to other bands
Of course I will listen to the Bon Jovi songs I like

And of course I can do what i want with BJ. they arent my gods. I´m not a backstager

Look, the term "real fan" is really cheesy and I avoid using it, but someone who is that, supports the band no matter what. I believe you are one of those people who is and always will be impressed by their old times, you know, like hits and stuff, but the thing is, time has passed and they've grown, they've evolved and they experimented with all sorts of things, some people like them, some people don't, but if you don't like their newer albums, which are different but still very pleasant, that doesn't mean it's time for their retirement. I listen to basically every kind of music from classical to rock, and Bon Jovi are and always will be my number 1 band...Again, if you didn't like the turn they took over the past few years, that doesn't mean they don't have ideas anymore, they're not good anymore etc, they still are the same people, the same incredibly talented people that wrote Living on a prayer and so on...And I love some songs from the new record just as much as I love Livin' on a prayer
This type of thing happens all the time...The older fans are frustrated by the new, more modern songs their favs release....but it's ur opinion...
