Obviously, because of the open D string in the riff, he had to change his fingering too. On the record with the capo on 2nd, the open D became the open E. Normal live LMS, half step tuned down with capo on 2nd, open D became an Eb; Amsterdam tuning, half step tuned down, no capo, open D became a C#.
So E on the record became a C# in Amsterdam, 3 semitones down. Shite.
I think Gav'll back me up on that setup. Won't you Gav

I agree and that performance of LMS does sound rank.
Can't say I've ever heard a version of BOR played anything other than a half step lower. Do you have a youtube link for where they have played it lower than a semitone down?
Whilst I can understand the logic behind a whole tone detune, the simplest solution is that Jon should just up his efforts a bit. I have no doubt that he could sing DC, Always or BOR well in a tour setting without it sounding forced or resorting to lowering the pitch of the song. I just honestly don't believe he puts everything into it that he could - his refusal to quit smoking is testament to that.
