Show me even a single performance of a song post-2018 where Jon a) manages to stay on key most of the time and b) doesn’t drag massively behind the beat - right, there aren’t any, so perhaps people will finally admit he was indeed still way better 6-7 years ago than ever since then, and to compare this kind of a situation where he was struggling but still had a functioning voice, to one where he could no longer even speak properly, is just silly.

This is horrible as well. He sounds weak and whispery, has breathing issues, doesn’t carry the melody, but shouts the notes instead. Is it better than 2022 ? For sure. But it’s far from being “that’s not so bad”.

No one's forgotten anything here but you constantly analyzing every shit performance and then pointing out the 3 seconds he was doing great by posting random youTube links no one has any interest in listening to because every performance since 2015 is god-awful to listen to.

What's silly is you defending your point of view by saying "Well he sounded like a cat trying to sing opera but that was okay because he now sounds like a cat trying to sing opera while being chased by a swarm of angry bees." Yes, everyone prefers 2018 over this. But it's still awful, awful stuff.

Every performance since 2015 is a bitch to listen to. Even the supposedly good ones. Pointing out random songs and saying "It's not that bad during this song" doesn't make sense when it is bad. You've just lowered your standards a lot and mix up range with actual singing. Jon hitting random notes or staying in key does not equate to singing. Jon can't sing anymore. This Musicares performance was a way of testing the waters in public and it was still pretty dire but yet he signed up for it anyway. It completely proves how "If I can't be great I'm out" theory is utter nonsense.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Damn it, Seb, I spilled my coffee when I read that

He said it was his first performance in 2 years. So (probabably ) surgery somewhere in 2022

Obviously whenever the next tour is, that will be the test. While there is loads of studio tricks to do, the voice must have played at least some part in the quality of the albums too. It seems Jon wants one more go to prove himself - or to himself - and then it will end.
True. His voice has a major impact on the songs. Pre-2000, Jon's voice wzs the biggest instrument of the band.
It is 100% influencing the songwriting.

You write songs to fit your voicerange. With his more limited range came song that did not have the same power. Lower key songs have less power and less hit potential. ( few exceptions aside)

I had forgotten about that tour. That was absolutely mind-blowing awful and it was just the beginning.

I'd struggle to call any 2013 performance good, he gave his all in some of the post-Richie shows but it all went downhill so quickly that I honestly didn't believe he was going to do another tour in many many years.

I am not following the story closely but I'm curious to see when he did realize his voice was dead and there was no going back. If it was years ago and he kept on because he was on denial or thought he could cover for it with the band and the performance, or if it's recent and caused by the huge public backlash he got for the first time in his career. I felt like it was the former because to me he was lying to the fans as the years went by and his performance (not just the voice) became so shockingly poor, but what do I know, people kept buying tickets so maybe he felt plan B was working until he got a sobering wake up call when everyone started pointing out that the Emperor was naked

Like I said when I first read about his vocal surgery, I really really feel sorry for Jon the singer, but I'm also not fooled by Jon the business man that will do anything to survive so I am pretty meh about the whole thing and don't expect much from him and the band until they call it quits. I will still buy a ticket if Richie is ever back to performing with them and I will honestly accept the band in that scenario no matter what. So I guess I'm not really much better than all those fans that still thought there was hope after 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019

Default JBJ has had vocal Surgery

Apparently he thought the 2022 tour was ok until they told him it was not.

He downtuned the songs further; something he didn't do until 2012, even though his voice had been in the process of breaking down for almost a decade at that point.

Any singer is much more aware of their shortcomings than the listener.

Whatever he said in that video is purely for headlines.

THIS. You don't drop songs a full step down and then play dumb that you were fine. This has gotta be damage control PR.

Yep. I was being sarcastic. There’s no way he thought that he was doing ok.
