I kinda agree with krb on this one. The sentence has a hidden meaning, saying that none of us are happy with what we are, that we're all in the need of change. What if I don't want to change? What if someone is perfectly happy the way (s)he is?

I think the reason for saying that was sincere, but it does have a hint of "I'm where I want to be and you should want to be up here too".

For me it is a very convenient quote to promote the sorts of songs that JBJ is writing these days... and sometimes I find it hard to believe that he actually means them! I don't think it's the best worded sentence he ever could have come up with and I think the best thing someone can or should do is to get comfortable with who they are so long as they don't get complacent... was it Everyday at SBE when Jon bragged something like "rumo(u)r has it it's going to be number one"?

As for the Oxford students, most of them are upper class pricks who should be lined up and skewered with a gigantic spear... the people who attended that weren't fans... you have to be a member of the union and most seem to join that so that they can "play" politics... the sad thing is that many then graduate to play politics for a living. When Michael Jackson did his talk they had to sell tickets apparently, but for JBJ you could just turn-up and queue... I have a feeling it wasn't even full.

"Don’t get too comfortable with who you are at any given time -- you may miss the opportunity to become who you want to be. " as said by JBJ at an out of his depth, fish out of water speech at Oxford University (maybe they will let him in with his 'doctorate' degree - hahaha).

I interpet this as Jon saying that his life is great, and the lives of most other people aren't. "You may miss the opportunity to become who you want to be" implies that he thinks that people who haven't 'achieved' what he has must automatically be stuck in a dead end job that they don't like and they are unhappy with.
I interpret this as being written by someone who has clearly run out of things to talk about and is now going to make off-the-wall assumptions just because they can. We going to start critiquing what Jon writes on birthday cards next?

Aloha !

I don't think Jon sends birthday cards, he'll probably think that people know he hasn't forgotten their birthday so he'll think it won't be necessary to send them. His ego is way too big...

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Well, I think that's the whole point of the quote: if you get too comfortable, too happy with where you are at you become resistant to change, when change might be what you need even if you don't know that yet. It could be anything: music, career, relationships, religion, living circumstances, toothpaste brand.. It doesn't mean all change is good, but some changes potentially are-- and you will never know that if you become too stubborn in your ways.
