JBJ's extra activities

I read posts here regularly, but rarely post myself. I was reading through some posts today though and felt the need to respond to some comments made. #1. Jon makes crap commrecials to boost his ego. FYI- Steven Tylerand Joe perry make Gap commercials( clothes store in the US) and at the moment Tyler is appearing in a digital camera commercial. Bono and U2 have their own I-pod and the commercial to go with it has played ad-nauseum here in the US for a month or more. Rumor has it that Motley is going to do a commercial for XM or Sirrius radio to boost their reunion recognition. My point is that slagging JBJ for doing this makes no sense. It's called marketing and keeping your face and name in the publics head is good for the bands- people pay attention to names that are familiar to them. #2. Jon's acting. This has always seemed to me to be something he does for himself, a way to step out of his own skin and look at things from a different perspective. I don't see how this can be a bad thing. Now i agree that not all the films were great, I actually thought he was very good in a few of them, and ha has been better at making the transition than any still A-list rocker that I know of. #3. Jon's arrogance. I really have to wonder where this comes from. I'm not saying he has none, because I think it takes a certain amount of it to step on stage in front of 60 thousand people. Bono has it on stage as does Steven Tyler, it goes with the job. Off-stage Ive met 2 of the 3 and have to say arrogance was not in evidence from either one. Both were polite, laid back and very easy to talk to. The disinterest that comes across in interviews is boredom as far as I can tell, how many times would you like to answer the same lame question? #4. Jon's passion. I keep redind here that Jon admits he doesn't have passion for music anymore. I've never heard or read this. I have heard or read that music is not his only passion anymore, there are other things he loves as well. Think about something for a minute- if JBJ didn't explore other things and have other passions what exactly would he be writing songs about 20+ years in? Even artists that don't do other things public do go off and do things that have nothing to do with music thenthey come back and those experiences end up in songs. I'd rather he went off and made movies or did the football team thing than have him writing his sixth version of New Jersey. JMO. Is he busy? Yes, absolutely. Does he sometimesnot seem completely immersed in peformances? Yes, I think he struggles to get 'in the zone" sometimes. Has he let his voice go? No I don't think so. I do think that he has more trouble with it than any of us will ever know about. A friend who's a nurse for an allrgy DR> tells me that if he suffers from pollen allergies that every outdoor venue is horrible for him and that if he takes pills or shots for it that the effects of those can make him appear out of it a bit. Not an excuse just a possible explanation. I agree that he may not spend as much time keeping his voice in shape as he should due to doing other things and yes I'll agree that it does sometimes affect his ability to sing. #5. It is his life folks. Does he really owe us every drop of his blood? Some of you seem angry, like it's a personal insult to you that he does anything but sit in a room and crank out new songs for you. i don't get it.

Oh dear! Did you ever even hear how much separate paragraphs help reading things better?

Also, I would have stuck to the original thread. Separately it doesn't make much sense

Jon has said in interviews that he has lost some of his passion for music (probably because he has been doing it for so long) but i don't think that he has lost all of it or why would he still be making records? But he has definatly lost some of the passion if he is admitting it himself.

(It would be easier to read if the points were seperated, but no big deal )

I read all of it. Thank you for the refreshing post from a different perspective. I think MOST people have to have a variety of things in their life, otherwise there would be nothing to inspire creativity.

If anyone wants to take issue with what you've said, I'm sure they will be able to get past the lack of paragraphing.

If your posts will maintain their quality I won't mind you posting just rarely. Some paragraphs would not have hurt though.

Anyway,i read an interview with Bono today where he said that if he can't "feel" a song then he has trouble hitting the notes while singing.
It got me to thinking that maybe this is true of JBJ as well. Could it be that sometimes he just can't "feel" some songs and therefore has trouble emoting the feelings behind it? What do y'all think?

Well said. I agree with you on this matter. I truly feel too many are too hard on Jon, they don't take into account that he is a human and not a robot. Oh and by the way, I have no problem with your lack of Paragraphing. Big fat hairy deal, what matters is you made your point, quite effectively I might add.

I think that sometimes he probably can't feel the emotions behind the song as much as he used to. I was watching the One Last Wild Night concert the other day, and when he was singing bed of roses it just didn't sound the same as it has done in the past- it didn't sound as powerful (if you get what i mean). Some of it could be his voice but i think that what was missing was the emotions that he first felt when writing it.

If you look at the newer ballards (from crush and bounce) they are not as powerfull as some of the older ones :bed of roses, always, i'll be there for you. Could this also be why a lot of people don't like them, because the emotion is missing?
