I think it's a Tom Waits song. I'm pretty sure it is because Jon has had an audience members say it was Bruce and he corrected that person.

Yes, it's a Tom Waits song from the album "Heartattack and Vine".

All three versions are great and you really can't compare Jon to Tom Waits. Jon's version is a little weaker in my opinion than the original and Bruce's version a little bit better maybe. So I'd say
1. Bruce
2. Tom
3. Jon

How dare I?

That's easy... I really don't think Tom Waits or Bruce Springsteen are good singers, so I can pick Jon. Tom has a very interesting voice. Bruce sounds horrible. They're both much better at writing songs than they are singing them. I'm sorry if I'm offending any Tom or Bruce fans. I'm rather picky about male voices.

Yes, actually I'm offended a little bit.
There are two different kinds of good singers. Jon is technically much better than Waits or Springsteen but sometimes a screwed up voice like Tom Waits' is can put much more emotion into a song than the best singer could do. Sometimes it's just about the character of the voice and not the quality. Pavarotti might be a great singer but can you imagine him singing "Mystery Train" (yes, I picked that one for you...)? Would you like it just because he can sing?
In my opinion - and I know you agree with me - Jon is one of the best singers in popular music but I still like Tom's version better. And by the way "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" is one of my favourite Waits songs and it wouldn't work with Jon singing it.

If it's the version I'm thinking of, it was recorded in Melbourne Australia in 1997.

I was actually at the concert (JBJs solo tour) and he actually changes the words from Jersey Girl to Aussie Girl at one stage.

I like Jon's version better.

I'm not partial to Bruce's voice.. Never have been..
