Your right Bam Bam Jons version is the 97 Aus one and the crowd goes mad when he says Im in Love with an Aussie girl.

I have to say that I can make my mind up who I prefer singing it, I think they all have different qualities. I was brought up listening to Bruces version and feel close to that, I think he has a different kind of depth to the song.

I love Jons voice and , it does have a lighter feel to the song, more romantic sounding, Im probably not making any sense now.

Please dont turn this subject into a battle of opinions and being offended etc. If you are so easily offended by another person opion of a voice , you will have trouble getting through life. We all have differences and should respect and grow through them.

Are you talking about me because I said I'm offended? I put that laughing emoticon behind the sentence which means "Don't take it seriously". Nobody on a message board could ever offend me especially not when it's about voices. But actually I think people who see a possibly upcoming fight in every statement made will have trouble getting through life.

Yes, actually I'm offended a little bit.
There are two different kinds of good singers. Jon is technically much better than Waits or Springsteen but sometimes a screwed up voice like Tom Waits' is can put much more emotion into a song than the best singer could do. Sometimes it's just about the character of the voice and not the quality. Pavarotti might be a great singer but can you imagine him singing "Mystery Train" (yes, I picked that one for you...)? Would you like it just because he can sing?
In my opinion - and I know you agree with me - Jon is one of the best singers in popular music but I still like Tom's version better. And by the way "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" is one of my favourite Waits songs and it wouldn't work with Jon singing it.[/quote]

Using that Pavarotti example sure sounds familar! I do agree that Tom Waits can put a lot of emotion into a song. But when it comes to a song like Jersey Girl it's really easy to pick Jon's version as the one that sounds the best. I don't think Jon would sound right singing a lot of Tom's songs though.

Howdy!

I'M STICKING UP FOR TOM!!!! He does it best! The voice suits the song perfectly! And it's the only song he sings "she-la-la-la" in! Tom does it best! Everyone buy "Heartattack and Vine"!

Sorry, I just feel he's a little underrated....
