same here...I always thought Joey was inspired by Forrest Gump

I had never thought of that but yet it makes o mcuh sense.

"I never cared that Joey Keys was slow

Though he couldn't read or write too well but we'd talk all night long."

But it's the whole, "picking locks" lyric that makes me think Joey is kind of a quasi-hoodlum. He never took everything, but, he was still kinda....street. His parent's were blue collar. I never got the idea that this was about anybody but this title character, BUT, I don't much know the background of any of their personal lives.

..I don't see Joey as having severe learning difficulties....I think he's maybe not the sharpest tool in the bag...and yes I think he's streetwise... but a lovable rogue!!

Plenty of those around here!...ask what they gonna do with their lives!..not even thought about it!

I'm not saying he's mentally challenged but I always just got the impression he didn't have the book smarts he needed to apply himself to get a job,etc.

Then again, I'm just using my imagination and the Bounce dvd as my guide. See, this is why I love songs like this, because we can all sit here and discuss what we think Joey Keys is like, and we're all right.

I dont think the video portrays Joey as he is meant to be percieved

Yeah I take Joey to be about a man thats not that bright, but they support him and hope that he has a good life.

I just don't like the song at all. I can never get very far into it..before I have to move on. It does nothing for me.

Dawn , when we were young did you used to watch Blue Peter? There was this kid the used to raise money for that was disabled . I'm sure he was called Joey do you remember?
