Well, if you believe Behind the Music Dot left Jon because she didn't like that he "ran away and joined the circus" meaning the rock and roll life. Jon during that period dated Diane Lane for a brief time (I think months, not years) but showed up at Dot's mom's house one day wanting to get back together and as Jon said "she fell for it". That was about 1985 I think. They got married in 1989 as we all know. A lot of songs on 7800 refer to the Jon and Dot breakup.
