Ah. So the next time people are discussing a new album you will be saying "Jon likes it. That's it, end of story" ? If so, you really are a good addition for a messageboard...

And yes Crash, before you mention me being a good addition as well, or some sarcastic comment from your side, please just shut up about it in the first place.

Erm... where did I say we have to like it because Jon does? But that's part of something he wrote where he states he does and thinks it can be liked. You don't like it. I don't like it. So? We're all - even Jon - entitled to our opinion. I was just pointing out that I don't think it's such a big deal that Jon likes the artwork used for his band's boxset. That's what I was saying.

It's not like he's making you like it by saying those things, is it now?

Where did I say that you said we have to like it because Jon said?

You're completely missing my point. It would've made sense if he would've said "I've read the opinions about the artwork but I've got to say that I really like it". Now that would've made sense.

Now it looks like Jon the marketing machine, which doesn't make sense in a letter aimed towards the fans, who've bought the boxset anyway.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I think he's sort of reviewing it, looking back on it. The songs have already been talked about so he's commenting on the artwork.

Am I missing your point? Well, probably because I don't get what you're trying to say, Jon is selling his boxset (whether people have it already or not) and talking positively about it. He's saying he likes it (whether he knows or not about people not liking it). I don't see why Jon's statement is so offensive or terrible to you.

Also, Jon might not go through every submission, it still doesn't answer the question why he brought up the artwork thing again in his letter to the fans. I'm 100% positive he knows about most fans not liking it, he knows what's been said on messageboards and what the general opinion about him and Bon Jovi is.When the Bounce tour had started in Japan people complained about it online and he mentioned it a few days later during a show in Japan. He knows what's been said. And a part of his life is what fans think of the things he does.
So? Methinks he must truly love it then.

I'm beginning to believe you are indignant only because you didn't get the attention you wanted by Jon. Ok, I shut up with sarcastic comments. Only because it's your wish. Oh, I'm so nice.

It's obvious whaen this "quote" is read within the context of the paragraph that JBJ is simply thanking and giving credit to those he feels deserve it.
Of course Jon likes the artwork, he did approve it's use. I don't read anywhere in the letter that he's trying to convince anyone of anything, to me you've taken your own "creative" spin on what was wriiten.

I don't know how many of you have seen the boxset on the shelf in the store but I have and I have to say as a visual marketing concept the cover art is a good idea. It's bright (most sets on the shelf are in dark or subdued colors) it stands out, catches your eye which in theory will make you want to pick it up look at it more closely and potentially buy it. Which is the point after all. Am I madly in love with the cover art? No but in all honesty BJ's cover art has never been great. By their own admisssion they "suck " at album sleeves and always have. Jon joked 10 years ago or so that he ought to have Tico do a cover. I still think he should.

art is not supposed to be driven by commerce. It often is, but it doesn't mean it is good in an artistic sense.

You're correct that art in the strictest sense is not supposed to be driven by commerce but cover art is meant to be. Cover art = packaging and is supposed to capture your attention, make you curious to take a closer look, which is why I said that as a visual marketing concept the white and gold cover was a good idea.

How much TIME did you waste on finding yet more faults with Jon?
He didn't write this letter to YOU - he wrote it to his fans.
And furthermore, it wasn't for YOU (or me for that matter) - it was to members of his fan club which you proudly will claim you will have nothing to do with it. So don't think for a second you speak on behalf of anyone but yourself. Sad little man. Sad, sad, sad.

Ah, so you agree with me that it's wrong what he's saying?

So because he wrote it to his fans he can put as much crap in it as he wants to? Because his fans are blind followers anyway that are supposed to accept everything?

If you think I post for you instead of for myself you don't really understand why messageboards are here in the first place. :s
