I couldn't agree more. This also fits well with the fact that, in that era, Jon wrote another song which I feel is very much influenced by Tom Petty, I Got The Girl.

Btw, I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers ripped of Tom Petty's guitar riff from Mary Jane's Last Dance even better for Dani California..

Felipe, here are a couple more you can do:
Never Say Goodbye - Hearts of Stone (Bruce Springsteen - Jon even admitted stealing this one)
I'll Be There For You - Don't Let Me Down (Beatles - the first verses)

Brilliant!

The 'another reason to believe'/'heartbreaker' one is so obvious! Hadn't heard that stones song before.

And 'thief of hearts' actually = 'I wont back down'', always thought it sounded familiar..

JBJ - I believe

There were tons of ballads written during that timeframe.
Yeah, but none of those sound anything remotely close to what would be considered a classic Bon Jovi ballad. Out of everything that's come from the recording sessions of Bounce, All About Lovin' You is the only song that sounds like a typical Bon Jovi ballad. I doubt Jon thinks of You Had Me From Hello when talking about a ballad.

Ahem, the real world? Comments like these actually show how little certain people know about the music industry. There's a lot of artists that just don't make a big deal out of it when their music is stolen, so talking about court settlements or pay offs simply indicates you have no idea about how songwriters and artists deal with things like this.

It's still surprising me how people flat out refuse to believe how Jon stole things from other artists, like many artists steal from eachother. One art movement wouldn't exist without a previous one that sparked a certain artist to start to do things differently. It works the same way with music, there's not many artists who are 100% original. The real question is as to how original Bon Jovi really is, considering how more and more examples show up. I just heard Live's Pain Lies On The Riverside for the first time and it's very obvious how Bon Jovi took a certain beat and bassline for the creation of Keep The Faith. It doesn't make me appreciate Keep The Faith any less, but does make me realize that the song is not as original as many, including Jon, would like you to believe.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Maybe the reason WHY they don't talk about is BECAUSE they get payments and settlements, in which case it isn't REALLY theft, is it?

I seriously doubt Jon is paying off loads and loads of artists every year simply to be able to release a song like "Rich Man Living In A Poor Mans House" with just his credits on it, on a box set with the indication that it's a b-side.

It's just a matter of being fully aware that every artist steals from eachother. Would things really work with settlements there's not many rock & roll artists who could actually live on their royalties.

I do think Jon works with pay offs, but not to the extent you're suggesting.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Absolute 100% twoddle. Stop smoking those (should be illegal) drugs. There is no way, and no evidence, that Bon Jovi have ever paid any artist off for "sounding like" another artist.

Yeah you're right that every artist takes some sort of influence off each other as people do in all ways of life, but to assume Jon pays off artists is complete and utter fabrication. Pure bollocks. I thought you knew the industry...

Just a load of conspiracy theory bs to be honest.

IML has Bon Jovi screaming all over it. Talkbox, melody and even the lyrics (Tommy + Gina, etc).

Seb, I cannot wait for your next thread on how the September 11th attacks were an inside job.
