just for anyone who didn't know, the snippet of the song shown is entirely different in the facebook preview to the final show on CBS, so watch both basically.

I agree wholeheartedly with you here. I enjoy this interview and as for the Soul Kitchen, that is genuine too. He is not there every weekend but he is there more often, than not and not with the cameras there. It's something very important to the whole family.

Have to hear more of the song to make any judgement but the title seemed good, What About Now?

Anyway are some outtakes from the interview:

sound like Happy Now, this sucks. John Shanks is poison to Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi must reinvent again, we are in another decade.

Happy Now is one of my favs off The Circle and Bullet too...lol!! He can keep Work For The Working Man type of songs, lol! I have not seen the interview yet or heard the snippet. I do understand the arguments for wanting something different thematically and lyrically but I think as Captmorgs mentioned, it's just where he's at right now. I do think he writes what he feels vs for the fans, radio, etc. Don't get me wrong, personally my fav songs from Jon lyrically are from DA..and I'd love more of that introspection but for whatever reason, he ain't giving us that......

I totally see what you're saying but it's the "he writes what he knows" argument I'm not buying. He doesn't know how to write a better worded song or he knows better than that. Was he burned so badly with These Days and D.A bombing in North America? He's fully capable of getting his point across without pandering it to the mass audience. Look at a song like Lonely; Beautiful, rich imagery with a lush production.

My original point remains. If the songs aren't selling, why does he repeatedly hammer the same message home in every song. Crashed, I agree. I Believe, Keep The Faith, Something To Believe In, Reason To Believe are all great songs because you can hear the time put into them. "I lost all faith in my god and his religion too" is a very specific message. "I'm complicated, get frustrated, right or wrong, love or hate it" is so vague and could mean anything to anyone. That's the point, I get that, but you lose a lot of people because of it too.

I don't know why I'm going off sounding so bitter over 15 seconds of a song we may never hear again, I just want them to have a reason to release something, not put something out as a reason to tour.

Ha ha you don't sound bitter Matt. I do think it could be lazy and/or insecurity that makes him recycle themes but who the hell knows. I'd love for someone to ask him that question in a way where he wouldn't feel attacked...i.e, not saying dumbing down lyrics, lol!!

The music of this What About Now reminds me the one in Lost Highway.

The fact that Jon was talking about THAT song and previewed it in an interview makes me think they're gonna put it in the next record.

Who recorded all the instrumentals though? He had a full blown backing track.
