I do think he writes what he feels vs for the fans, radio, etc. Don't get me wrong, personally my fav songs from Jon lyrically are from DA..and I'd love more of that introspection but for whatever reason, he ain't giving us that......

I totally see what you're saying but it's the "he writes what he knows" argument I'm not buying. He doesn't know how to write a better worded song or he knows better than that. Was he burned so badly with These Days and D.A bombing in North America? He's fully capable of getting his point across without pandering it to the mass audience. Look at a song like Lonely; Beautiful, rich imagery with a lush production.
My original point remains. If the songs aren't selling, why does he repeatedly hammer the same message home in every song. Crashed, I agree. I Believe, Keep The Faith, Something To Believe In, Reason To Believe are all great songs because you can hear the time put into them. "I lost all faith in my god and his religion too" is a very specific message. "I'm complicated, get frustrated, right or wrong, love or hate it" is so vague and could mean anything to anyone. That's the point, I get that, but you lose a lot of people because of it too.
I don't know why I'm going off sounding so bitter over 15 seconds of a song we may never hear again, I just want them to have a reason to release something, not put something out as a reason to tour.
