Interesting! There are parts where you can play them over each other and it doesn't sound that strange. I love them both though.

Totally agree. Plus, both have similar lyrical content, similar overall feel to the song (quieter verses leading to a big chorus) and the heavy Drop-D guitars and orchestral sound. If you listen to the bridge/solo parts of both songs (2:22 in Love Me Back to Life and 2:37 in The Distance) they're really similar, almost to the point that they could be interchangeable.

To this day (nearly 10 years after I got the album and started blasting it out) my mum (relatively big Bon Jovi fan) will walk into my room and still confuse one song for the other.

Hah, you can almost do the same thing to Last Cigarette and Novocaine. Christ, one time Jon actually mixed up the two lyrics. Not a joke.
