And Eric Bazilian wrote it once together with Amanda Marshall.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

It makes Jons marks about not singing anything he didn't write look a bit untrue. It could also be the explanation why later songs sound way too poppy and not Bon Jovi alike; because they were first written by other writers, and then had stuff added by Richie and Jon.

Salaam Aleikum,

Where can this Ugly by Amanda Marshall and Eric Bazilian be found? I've searched under her name and under Eric Bazilian's and come up with nothing.

Exactly, and then "suddenly" inspired by Dorothea.

We need some proof. On the booklet it clearly says Jon and Eric Bazilian and Jon's said it's written for Dorothea when she was pregnant.

I've found several songs written by Eric Bazilian and Amanda Marshall, but none are like Ugly. Also, if the song had been written "before" with Amanda Marshall, she should still be in the writing credits. There would be no reason to take her off, just to credit her as an additional writer.

Jon's story is that Eric's wife was pregnant at the time and it was something he could relate to as a writer because he never thought Dorothea was more beautiful than when she was pregnant.

You can find the song "Ugly" on the CD of Eric Bazilian ("The optimist"). There it says: Written by Bazilian/Marshall.

And this is what Eric answers about Ugly: (It`s from bj.de)

Here's the scoop on UGLY.... I wrote the version that's on the Bon Jovi
record by myself while my wife was pregnant with our first child. I had
also been working with Jon on his solo record and he heard the song,
loved it, wanted to record it. Putting his name on it was, well, a
"business consideration". Enough said about that. The deal we made was
that when I put it on my solo record I would leave his name off of it,
as he really had nothing to do with writing it. Besides that, when the
time came to put out The Optimist I had decided that I wanted to
re-work the song anyway, and ended up with something completely
different. Better? Who knows. But different...
