Jon Celebrity Judge On American Idol

J.Lo is a trained dancer , perhaps thas why they have used her.

Im surprised Jon has sgreed to go on this , he is always slagging down the music world and how singers are made nowadays. Perhaps he isnt referring to this type of show, I always thought he was.

We get 2 American Idol shows every weekend, I presume it shows an edited version of US Idol shows from the previous week.

So has the show with Jon been on yet ? or have they just announced the up and coming show with Jon on ?

It's not been on yet Dawn. I've kinda been following AI this year and they've just finished the audition process to find the 12 guys and 12 girls to sing for votes. Jon will appear on one of the upcoming episodes, probably not for a while so it can coincide with the release of Lost Highways, but it will be made known prior to him being on.


I don't really have a problem with Jon doing this. Granted he's made no secret that he's no fan of these types of shows, specifically because they don't learn to write their own songs and be their own artist and he's not a fan of anybody telling anybody else that they're not good enough to follow their dreams, but in his capacity as a coach he will be aiding the development of a group of singers with similar dreams as those he had, so I don't really see the conflict.

Obviously he's doing this as a promotional piece rather then because he's passionate about it but so what? He's got a new album coming out and this program is watched by more then 20 million people a week in the US so it's a pretty good place to promote your band, your music and your new album. Look at what appearing on Oprah did for their sales? Is it a bit disingenuous? Yeah probably but that's the business.

Like you said it doesnt hurt to get out their and show your face to help promote an album

Does anyone remember who else they showed besides Jon to be a guest?? I missed the whole part.

I didnt think the new album would be out until end Apr /May.. will Idol still be going ?

Yes, Idol usually ends the third or fourth week in May.

I'm a bit disappointed. I thought Jon had a disliking for these type of programme and does seem like a way of getting himself in the spotlight.

JLo, Tony Bennet, Martina McBride, I think one of the BeeGees, possibly Diana Ross or Warrick, I cant remember which. Some others I cant remember. The list was not impressive.

Lets see if I can remeber the coaches list for this season. Realize now that none of these start until they get down to the final 12 contestants. I believe it was Diana Ross, Jon, Barry Gibb, Martina McBride, Gwen Stefanie, Jennifer Lopez, Peter Noone, those are all the ones I remember.

I suspect that Jon is returning a favor or two to various charitible contributions made by Idol to causes Jon supports and as a business man there isn't a much better way to debut a new single or announce a new record than 25 million plus watching on national tv in primetime which are the kind of viewrships Idol gets in the US. It's the most popular show on TV in America.

I'd also almost bet on Richie being around that day helping out the coaching.

Well look at that a carbon copy from Simon Cowell, this is exactly what he did in the last series of The X Factor, he brought celebs in as these coach types.... Nothing like being original now is there!
