No offense, but it's a bit bizarre to see 17, 18, 19 and 20 year olds complaining about how the band sucks now and were much better on their records and in concerts... when the people complaining weren't eating solid foods or using the restroom yet.
Yes I have to agree here. It is a bit bizarre to me too. No offence guys, but you can see how the long time fans can get a little put out sometimes by your comments as they have been there for the band throughout their whole career.
Ditto.....Bon Jovi pre 1995 is almost the dark ages when it comes to documented facts and photos. The extent has been left at the promo vids. So you have these kids who were still getting their asses wiped for them while the band was in constant heavy rotation on MTV running speculation as fact now. If it wasn't for those of us who have been there who have good memories and have held on to various media that no longer exists, the history of Bon Jovi would be screwed.

I agree about the long term thing, but the thing for these new things is that Crush is THEIR album. You always have a soft spot for the album that got you into BJ so thats why theyll always talk about Crush with such pride. The songs on that album were the first 12/13 songs they ever heard of BJ so theyll always love most of those songs. Same with me for the KTF album.

No, you're missing the point. If you just discovered Bon Jovi with Crush, of course you'll have a fondness for it. And if you listen to their back catalogue you'll discover earlier music which you may like or you may dislike. But to become a new fan, listen to old music and then take to the bandwidth to complain how Bon Jovi are no good anymore, were better earlier in their careers, perfomed live better when they RAWKED more in the mid-80s and that Jon's voice is shot... go home, your Mom's calling you for dinner. You missed the era... you're pissed off about it but don't trash what the band is doing nowadays because you were born too late to experience the carnival the first time it came to town!

Load of s*** Derek. So because someone is a new fan, they can not compare eras???

Now I've heard it all...

NO - if you CHOOSE to intentionally misread my e-mail and intentionally misinterpret my meaning, intention and opinion, that's your miscalculation.

What please is the point of discovering a band in 2003 only to spend your time online trashing them because they were so much better in 1983 (in your opinion?) You missed the boat because you weren't around then... deal with it. if you WERE there and you miss those days, you have more weight to your opinion (just like, if you go to a show and you have an opinion on it, it's carries more weight than the opinion of someone who listened to a bootleg or MP3, or worse yet only read a set list online, and formed an opinion they thought was definitive about a given show.) Buy yourself a time machine and go back to that era... Bon Jovi today are what they are. Take it or leave it. But pining for a bygone era *while trashing everything new... well, why don't you just pine for the Ottoman Empire. It's pointless.

DA is a real not BJ cd, on this he was trying to do something modern and more like pop and get even more fans. And it worked!
I know that many of my friends that I have played Queen of New Orleans for just ask me: Who is this? I love this song! I gotta know who it is?
And I answer of course Jon Bon Jovi the lead singer of Bon Jovi and they go like
What!! Is it really he!? I don't think so.. But if it is he.. is he really good! And I don't like BJ, I don't understand this, I just love this song but not BJ!
And I go
Buy this album (DA) and you get to hear Jon's wonderful voice and good songwriting on a hole cd.
And they go
Yeah, I will do that!
Next day
That cd you sad that I should buy is one of the best cd's that I ever listen to.

So that's how the DA anywhere cd worked
My friends really like pop and they just go wow!

Great story!

RISE AND RISE of Jon Bon Jovi!

That's not what people are doing. You are implying that because you were around before, others can't comment.. well, there's history down the drain! I can comment on the fact that I think the Nazi regime was bad, even though I wasn't there. I'm not going to justify now that I can comment on the band over 20 years, but I think as a fan I can say that a certain period was good or bad whether I've been there from the beginning or not.
You think that you have more right to comment because you've been there longer? No, the band has left their evidence for all of us to comment on. And someones's opinion is valid whether you agree with it or not, it's their opinion. Deal with it!

Default don't normally comment on this forum- useless chit chat

well i agree with Derek Bliss that going through and experiancing the bon jovi timeline makes sense for us older folk to look at BJ in perspective.
when BJ started, there was hardly any media attention in the uk and mtv was only available in the US, I think. Therefore the only way to experiance BJ was going to a show- now kids can watch bj bideos all day long on the internet, hell my family only got a colour tv in 1980, like most people in my year at school. I saw a band then that wanted to be better and bigger than iron maiden and def leppard in the uk. the competition then was massive.
Anyway, BJ defined their own music in relation to other rock bands when the 80's drew to a close. It was the really the end of an era. The band had to change direction because with all bands, change is inevitable cos the musicians get better at playing, except Jon.
Now they the band decide that stadium rock is the way ahead- peoples opinions might change if that prima donna jon had to play all the sweaty working class venues all over again.
Personally i think Bon jovi peaked a while ago and bounce was a pile of crap.
However Richie can still do the biz, so it's great seeing him play in his own committed way in an otherwisde clapped out band- take richie out of bj and you get a garage band.
