Hugh McDonald has more money than any of them thanks to his side gig as a male stripper.

I heard he gets $1m per appearance. He's THAT good.

According to Playbill, Memphis grossed $104,453,830 before it closed on Broadway in August, 2012. The Dramatists Guild requires that writers are guaranteed a minimum of 15.56% of the profits before recoupment until the play starts showing a profit, and then it's upped to 17.78% of the profits. That amount is split among the composer, lyricist, and librettist/book writer. Since David was composer/lyricist and DiPietro was book writer/lyricist, I would imagine that (at least) those amounts were split evenly between them. But even with them taking it to London after the Broadway run, plus the licensing for touring shows, TV broadcasts, the movie, and soundtrack, I still don't see how that would have made a dent in a $100 million dollar difference between David and Tico.

I did see contradictory information about Tico's net worth from various reports. Most of them had $20m; a few had $40m as far back as 2012, up through one that was supposedly updated in 2019. But some of the same sites showed David's net worth at $85m, as of early 2017, which would have been well after Memphis closed, and in 2019 it was $120m.
God, you are a wealth of info and so good at figuring things out, THANKS!

End of the day these net worth sites feel like a lot of guesses. They have no way of truly knowing how much people actually have. It's fun to discuss but past that, I doubt it.

John Mayer is very candid with fans on IG live and has said in the past these net worth sites are very wrong about his worth.

I think it's impossible for them to know what any musician's cut is or what kind of investments they have. If they don't have access to their taxes (which they don't), they don't know how much anyone is truly worth.

Puzzles, unanswered questions, details, more questions... it's all part of the package, I'm afraid. I blame it on being a Scorpio. But thanks for the kind words, anyway!

End of the day, I agree with you. The sites fluctuate too much; and like Rolo and DJ pointed out, without tax records and investment portfolios, there's really no good way to figure anyone's net worth beyond a scientific wild-ass guess. Even with the information I found, I would guess that anything over those minimums could be up for negotiation.

Dave has overtaken Richie as Bon Jovi's second-richest member because of his theatrical successes, which he funded with investors instead of his own money. And as Jon has taught us, there's a difference between what you're worth and how much actual cash you actually have: his National Football League team ownership dreams fell through because he would have had to convert every cent of his net worth into cash (by selling off all his assets AND paying off all his debts) just to come up with his share of the franchise fee.

Two more examples from the hiphop side: Bobby Shmurda, now serving out a seven-year plea deal, was offered bail, but he couldn't come up with enough cash that he could account for legally -- not even enough to post ten percent of it in a bond. And Nicki Minaj, allegedly worth $75 million, had to put up two houses she'd purchased for her family as collateral for her brother's $100K bail: she didn't have that much with nothing better to do than gather interest in a bank account?

And speaking of hiphop, there's been some hype lately about Jay-Z becoming its first billionaire, because that's what the "ownership stakes" in his business ventures are "valued" at. I say that you're not a millionaire or billionaire unless that's your minimum bank balance -- MINUS any debts!

Gene Simmons at #2 is also questionable IMO. Gene is much better at talking how good a business man he is than he is at doing business.

Also not sure why Bruce Dickinson would have more money than Steve Harris, or Mick Mars have more money than the guys from Def Leppard (however, given he also allegedly has more money than Nikki Sixx, maybe that's due to a lack of divorces).

Also... KK Downing is pretty much broke. Mis-invested and is doing stuff like books or tours with other ex-members of famous bands. His presence alone makes the list super questionable. You don't sell your publishing if you got 20 mio in the bank.

I also _really_ doubt that Taime Downe is a millionaire. Or Blotzer. Or Chris Holmes.

If you've seen Chris Holmes's last few music videos...that dude is not a millionaire.

You're telling me THIS guy

https://youtu.be/yUxXO3eSHa0

who last played in a succesful band when this video was taken is not a millionaire 30 years later? Obviously you just don't have the kind of sources SleazeRoxx has. He's a regular Vince Neil, Ace Frehley, rich drunk; no matter that WASP was never as big as their respective bands!
