They definitely need a break.
I would be hapy for them to take 2 years off and do the whole regroup thing which I think really works well for the band as a whole.
I think Jon has realized (going by most fans comments) that they are just doing the same old stuff now, lyrically and musically.

What I find funny about all of this is there seems to be a lot of people who assume that Richie would use the free time to make a solo record. People also seem to assume that Jon is single handedly responsible for the poor writing as of late but there is no evidence that Richie's solo record would be much different these days. It also seems highly unlikely that he will write another record of Stranger In This Town caliber...

Also, he has said he was going to release music with his fashion line co-designer and it is NOT rock/blues we kind of expect from Richie. Both Richie and Nikki have said that it is dance music as part of it is meant to go along with the clothing line which he seems to passionate about.

Granted, I love Richie's solo stuff but I just don't think people are lookng about this realistically.

Cliff Notes Version:
Richie will most likely if it all release a sub-par solo record.

That's a completely negative way to look at the situation.

Why on earth would you assume it to be sub standard? His solo stuff isn't geared exclusively towards Bon Jovi fans so he can write freely without sticking to the template he usually has to.

He also has had twelve years to write for himself, he's had tonnes of new experiences i.e Divorce, death, addiction to draw on. I'd imagine he'd have enough now to write a pretty decent album.

I think the only thing getting in the way of a new album is the commercial aspect of it. His last two albums didn't exactly shift a huge amount so I can't see much record company interest.

If they have a break, I hope that they release a live album or box of rarirties to fill the gap between new releases. A double deluxe cd edition of New Jersey in the way that it was supposed to be released would be nice!

Gee, you guys sure are positive. Maybe they won't have anymore hits, but I can see how they will still tour and put out good albums. And especially after last night's show, one would think that they would still be around for a while.
