I know the Mirror is hardly a reliable source, and that isn't a quote from Jon, but hopefully very wrong.
I won't pay attention to this too much, as you said, the Mirror and/or almost every UK newspaper are not a reliable source. I just think it was this person's interpretation. On another hand, does the band have to see/approve any articles about them?

I know this was an officially sanctioned interview, not sure if they have the right to read it first. It is kind of disturbing but could be the writer's spin. We all know Jon is not in the music mode right now. The one comment I did find telling was about the Stones. They always said they would see what the Stones did as a measure- seems Jon is now not interested in being an older rock band touring on the well known songs like the Stones just did. I have not really heard him say that before- just that they would not play the nostalgia circuit. But yes, the UK press so hard to know how to weigh this when on TV Jon has indicated he and Richie were writing recently, though he said it wasn't good.

When Jon made the comment about the Stones he said it when The Stones released a new studio album and therefor toured the world. The last tour of The Stones was because of their zillions greatest hits album. They didn't have any new stuff to play and they still toured. Jon just means he won't tour if he doesn't have anything new to play.

I think "last album" is just speculation to fuel rumors and sell issues. We all know that Jon and Richie have been writing together, even though they weren't very happy with what they wrote.

This is just typical of the UK press to twist things round so that they think that they've got a 'story'.!
