Cool

This has been taken from a Q & A in this weeks Radio Times (UK).
The thing is, various news agencies have put this on their websites and are making out that Jon is being serious!

Good one.

But I still think he has to show off way too much about his charity-work

Especcialy as untill a few years ago he bashed other artist for doing it so public and praised himself for doing it in private....

I mean ge gave 1 million to Habitat.. who cares, that's the same for him as I donate 100 $....

I mean how much is Jon worth, 500 million, so 1 million is 1/500
If I pay 100, I have to be worth $ 50.000 (I wish, not talking assets here) in order to have a equal donation.

I donated 100 before, so what the hell, should I continue as a hero/savior now?

The point wasn't the amount given, it was the WAY it was given. I guess his views were different than they were a few years ago, whose views HAVEN'T changed since then?

At the end of the day as we all go to sleep, for whatever purpose selfish or otherwise, good is being done and that's all we need to know.

So if I just donate 100$ it's normal, but if I make a big deal out of it, it's legit. Why do we need all need to know that?

imo every single person who has a few million is obligated to contribute to good things wich aren't covered by taxes or whatsover...

anyway, geuss it's a matter of opinion

Giving money publically for Katrina relief (or whatever charity) can inspire other people to do so and it keeps the issue alive.

There are still people living in TENTS on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. TENTS. They're about to face their 2nd winter. People are paying mortages on slabs of cement because the insurance companies have screwed them over by blurring the lines between wind damage/water damage to fit whichever exclusion the policies had.

But, hey they can rebuild the Superdome in New Orleans, so everything must be back to normal, right?

I really don't care if Jon shines a spotlight on himself and starts wearing a halo or if you, TheseDays2005, get yourself a Billboard for doing something good. Inspiring someone else to do whatever they can is a good thing.

I mean this with no disrespect but you donating 100 dollars will be just that. You donating 100 dollars. There aren't people who follow your every move and say "Hey, maybe if he'll lend a hand, I will too". You gotta think that with the amount of fans Jon has, the devoted who won't breathe until he does it first, it's a domino effect.

In the end, you're right, I guess it's a difference of opinion. It certainly isn't anything to lose sleep over. The guy is doing what he can to help, and probably making a big deal out of it so others will follow suit.

Why does it matter if someone shows off their charity work? Do you think that the people who's lives are saved by money given to charities care why people gave their money to it?

When he donated that money wasn't it Oprah who revealed how much it was? He said he didn't want to say but didn't mind if she did (I don't know if I've just made this up, I think it is what happened) As people have said it can be good for a celebrity to talk about the charity work they do because their fans might follow and donate too, so how is it a bad thing? Do you really think Jon donated that money for his benefit? He doesn't need to do something like that for publicity, he isn't one of these z-list celebrities who will do anything to extend their 15 minutes of fame.
