Yeah the problem Jon has got with trying to write a song like that is that it would just turn out way too cheesy. He's better looking for something more serious to write about a bit like he did in '97 with DA. That was a great album, but I'm not sure Jon has that in him anymore though. He seems too happy and content in what he's doing at the moment, which pretty much brings me back to your original point. I guess when he has had something serious to write about then it has brought us some of the better songs of the last 10 years such as Novacaine and Undivided. Although having said that WFTWM was supposed to be like that and it has just turned out way too chessy and it sounds false. It's obvious Jon isn't really on the unemployment line.
The best thing for the band now is to pursue some solo projects, maybe after a GH and a couple of tours. The band's agenda has always been to appeal to the mainstream, and they seem too wrapped up in that and are missing the big picture. In my opinion it seems that with every album it's becoming more clear that they aren't really in it for the music anymore. Sad, but true.
