Smoking does affect your singing voice actually, but it's not actually necessarily for the worse in my opinion. For example ideally you shouldn't smoke, drink/eat dairy products, drink alcoholo or anything like that but very few singers work in that way. Though the ones that do all have amazing voices that I know of.

I still maintain that in some cases it is that Jon has just ****ed up his voice, but that overall it is a lack of effort. When he wants to turn it on (which tends to be just a couple of mins per show: examples, KTF, Someday I'll Be Saturday Night during the 2003 tour), but most of the time he doesn't try to push himself. I always think of Jon's voice at its best with the image of him busking somewhere: Moscow, London etc singing Wanted with a husky voice. Those who say "Jon's voice is better cos he doesn't have to take steroids... yadayada" - most of you sound like you're quoting from interviews of Jon rather than giving your own opinion.
