Anyone reckon he could still do THIS these days?

(Always - Cardiff 2001)

and people say that the 2000-2001 period was his worst vocally!
yes ther were some bad performances vocally then but also some awesome when lookin at vids!

i think he still could have saved his voice back in that period... which really doesnt seem like that long ago but it 6 years ago! :O .... has his voice changed that much since?

i think maybe he's settled to just being able to reach certain notes...which is why he doesnt even attempt singin the original always or bed of roses etc... so it doesnt really get a gd workin out...so when he does attempt to sing These Days etc.. it sounds shambolic????

uuummm...

Well he does go for the high stuff, heknows he can still reach some of them. Not Prayer's main chorus line obviously, which is a sample, but he does go for some stuff, it's just that his success rate in hitting them is only about 60% You can tell when he's really pushing it cos he pulls the mic away from his mouth to dull the note...

Still a good voice though.

he doesn't neccesarely (grrr what a ****in word when being drunk), have to sing high. But most of the time he replaced it it with that nasal sound while he got this other sort of voice/sound *you know what im talking about) wich he only does on a few songs. Do I make sence?

its like the difference to Hey God --> As my guitar but then nasal

At Prudential, I was actually surprised to see that he hit the Livin on a prayer line right before Richie's solo, and it actually sounded pretty good, much better than last tour from what I remember. I think his voice has been better so far this tour, but it's not what it was back in the 80's or even the 90's for that matter.

I used to think that his voice had got better since 2001 but check this video of something to believe in out. This was in 2001 and we can only dream of him hitting notes like this these days. Very surprised he pulled this off in 2001.

I've read a lotttt of discussion about this topic over the past year or so. First to start off, I agree with the fact, as does everyone else, that Jon’s voice isn’t what it used to be. But it’s not just one factor. There’s a lot of different reasons, in my opinion, why his voice just hasn’t held up:

Age: of course everyone will argue that Jon’s voice has just deteriorated with time and age. This is somewhat true, but I never believed that age can cause a person to lose a voice. Yes, I agree it becomes harder to maintain as you grow older, but with the right discipline and voice exercise, it can be done. Look at Steven Tyler…yea I know he doesn’t sound too great these days…but he went a long time in older age screaming his ass off in most of Aerosmith’s songs.

Health Habits: of course, Jon smoking and other health habits aren’t helping. That’s just a basic fact I think everyone will agree with.

Laziness: I guess this coincides with the Age thing…Jon’s just become real lazy with the whole thing. I’m not a professional singer, but I like to sing and I sing pretty well and can get pretty high. However, when I don’t sing for even a small amount of time, it’s harder and harder for me to reach those higher notes. So when Jon, who already has a voice that’s hard to maintain because of other reasons, doesn’t work out his voice by even attempting the high notes or stretching out his voice, yea..it’s gonna make it almost impossible for him to hit those notes after years of not doing it and with age wearing down.

Style: like someone just mentioned, his style has changed. He doesn’t sing with a powerful, raw, and emotional voice anymore. It’s making his voice sound weaker and a bit more jazzy and mellow.

Lack of Determination: I’ll probably get yelled at for this, lol. But I think in reality, there’s just a lack of determination for Jon to give it his complete all anymore. They can do just about anything on an album and then sell millions of tickets just because they’re Bon Jovi. Jon doesn’t need to give that extra effort to blow people away with his voice anymore because most of us, no matter how he or the band sounds, with buy each album and go see them (me included). They’re popularity and growth in success has cut into their emotional and creative motivation for creating music that defines them. I’m definitely not saying that Jon’s saying “screw the fans, I don’t have to give it my all anymore.” But I’m saying in mentality, it just becomes a factor and a reality.

So I think all these things attribute for what Jon’s voice has become today. I’m not bashing him at all. Bon Jovi is still my all time favorite band and Jon will always be one of my favorite singers and an influence to me. I don’t think his voice these days is bad. It’s not as good as it once was, but when you don’t compare it to the older Jon, it’s a good voice. I just wish he took these things into account and tried just a little harder. The voice is still there. It’s buried, but it’s not dead completely.

Btw, sorry this is so damn long, lol.
