He gave his reasons for publicly giving the money on OPrah. He said he wanted people to be aware on the class issue so that is why he did it. Not to big note himself. He just wanted people to follow the story and learn more about what happened. I think he just uses his status to get the word out there. How that can be a bad thing is beyond me. He hasn't gotten egotistical at all. I just don't see that.

Also, he left it up to Oprah to reveal how much if she wanted to. He had that check face away from the cameras.
But, it's like you said, people are going to condemn him no matter what he does. The ads for RSVP go back to helping the homeless cause too. He's not doing this to line his own pockets, but people still pick it apart. At least he's doing SOMETHING to help people in need and using his celebrity for some purpose other than himself.
It amazes me that people sit back and judge what he's doing publicly and forget that he's done charitable work behind the scenes for years. No one knows everything he does for charity.
