Default Jon unique voice ingredients !

Hello,

I know some of you feel Jon cant sing( more like scream+ shout) like he used to, fine, we've done that topic over and over zzzzzzzz.

Whether you think his voice has faded or not , you have to admit how unique his voice actually is.

I always know when it is him singing . Dont you?

Ive never heard anyone sound like him or mimic his voice well. Have you?

Springsteen , I know when it is him singing , he sings with this certain tone and seems to slur slightly . I have never heard anyone mimic him well either.

Elvis for example has a notiable voice, but look at the amount of people who are able to impersionate him, and they do it quite well.

Even through 20 yrs of listening to Jon and the changes /growth that has occurred through his singing I wonder what makes his voice unique? I cant explain Jons uniqueness like I can with Springsteen.

Maybe Jons voice ingredients are just down to that good old fashioned Jersey accent , mixed with alcohol /cigs + a pinch of Italian

Opnions please ......

Dawn

First, what's with these new take-over-my-computer pop ups?

Anyway, a reviewer once described Jon's voice as being "whiskey and honey" and I thought that fit very well. He's got a rough edge but can sound oh so sweet too.

Yeah hi voice is preetty unique.
It may have faded a bit over the years but it still has a lot of caracter and I think at the end of the day he may not be able to hit the high notes but caracter has to count for something.

It is quite unique. It is much more nasal to me now than it was back in the day, but I guess he is trying to prevent shredding it like he did in the past. I will say that at the last show, Giants, he got rid of that nasal twang for the majority of the songs. I guess at that point he could go all out because it was the final show of the tour. But you are right Dawn, Jon is not easy to imitate.

Never though about the imitating subject- good point!

And thank you for the "whiskey and honey" description
WOW- I was trying to define to myself, the nature of Jon's voice and couldn't- the second I read this -it hit base- I totally embrace it, thanks!

About the accent- G-d, I don't get his- when he talks in interviews (sweeeet) and movies- fine- but on stage when he goes for that western accent- it drives me crazy- or simply makes me laugh...

About Elivs
I recently saw an old Elvis show from 1972- to think that that was the high light of Rock'n'roll...it was an quite calm ahow- comparied to Bon Jovi rock shows...

but you couid definatly see things that probably inspired Jon
(this was the first tv show broadcasted via sattelite -reminda you of a certain band that does webcasts- and stuff?)

Don't worry, the western accent makes me laugh too. I cringe every time that I hear it. As I have said before, I am from Sayreville, NJ, and nobody I know speaks that way.

As for Elvis, I don't know about calm. Watching his earlier shows I noticed that the fans were crazy. I only wish I was around to see him perform live. What a show it must have been!!!

Mouse, I was lucky enough to see Elvis live twice before he died. Once in Vegas in 1974 and then again in 1976. It was one of the best shows. In '74 he was not overweight like he was in '76. I was lucky to have a mother who loved him and was cool enough to take her kids to see him.

As far as Jon's voice, yes, it is very unique. I haven't heard anyone else that sounds like him. His voice can be rough but yet can be so smooth too. As far as his accent and speaking sometimes, I do think it's funny that he tries to be a little "southern" When he says "ya'll" I always say to myself "do people in NJ say ya'll" LOL!! I'm a southern girl now transplanted in NJ so I can appreciate the attempt at a southern accent.

Deb, I'm so jealous that you got to see Elvis! I LOVE Elvis. When I was 4 years old, I wanted to grow up to be Elvis. LOL Like Jon, his voice turns me to mush.

Yeah, Jon definitely has a Southern accent sometimes. I've noticed it a lot and wondered how in the world he picked it up. He used to have such a thick Jersey accent. Now when he speaks it's accent free, but when he gets on stage he becomes Southern. And they barely even play in the South. Go figure.

WOW, that is just awesome!! It is amazing watching him on video, so I can't even begin to fathom how the experience is live. You are very lucky!! We just got the 68 Comeback Special DVD that came out the other day, it is great!!

Yeah, it's obvious that Jon's voice doesn't have the same raw power it did in the 80's, or the massive depth and range in the 90's, but I still think in general it is a very distinctive voice. And I also like the way that in TLFR, he's experimented with different vocal styles
