Exactly. IŽve never quite understood how it may have happened and in such a short period of time. In just 2 years, most of that enthusiasm would be gone and thereŽd be an endless flow of IML clones instead. Could it really all come down to the desire of being current and succesfull?

(This is not to say I wouldnŽt appreciate many of their post 2000 efforts. Some of my dearest BJ songs are from that era. Yet the abovementioned change seems almost unreal.)

I'm listening to DA right now, Man i want this songwriter BACK!!! He was just awesome during this era, a true poet. The mid section of the album has always been a highlight for me, Staring at your window..., Every word..., It's just me, the title track are just amazing! Midnight in chelsea, Janie, Little City and Learning how to fall are awesome too!! It's a great album when you're in more of a thoughtful, somber mindset, and I've always been a hopeless romantic so the album really touches my soul and life to this very day!....

Interesting that you describe yourself as hopelessly romantic, but have that pic in your signature all the time

You can be tough and be a hopeless romantic and a tender and sensitive individual. Just like Sly. In fact, he's described his tough physique as an armor he's used throughout his life to psychologically protect his artistic and sensitive side that has gotten hurt so many times ....

That is an interesting point of view. I guess failure changes people and no doubt, he perceives those years as failure. His movie career tanked (thank God for that as there's very few people in the world with less talent), his solo record was only really popular in Germany; These Days had already been somehow placed in the failure bucket. So he re-oriented and created a touring powerhouse of a band. Again, I can't but admire him for that, even if it means that Bon Jovi sucks....

And somehow, reading through those lines full of enthusiasm and genuine passion for what he does, it just makes me be a little more understand with Jon. Maybe it's age as well, or having gone through some experiences where things don't turn out the way you hope despite having done your best...failure makes you change things and he must have perceived those years as failure.

Having said that - he always seemed to be a miserable **** around 1997? Do we actually know why?

"I don't want to be Elvis in a white suit. It's just something that hit me last summer when I was doing multiple nights in stadiums. It was an unbelievable time, but if it meant I was only there because people were coming to hear the hits, then I'd rather walk away and try it in a different way."

Well its not white, but we get mostly nothing but hits
