Could be, I don't hear it. He was good at some shows at the LH tour. But he isn't anything compared to even the Crush and OWN tour - his voice was a lot better on those tours. Compare Blaze from Giants 2001 to the Blaze on the MSG dvd and you know what I mean. He looks in pain nowadays when he even tries to hit some of the higher notes.

It's a shame his voice has changed like this, but the show must go on.

He only has himself to blame if it is down to the smoking. I also think some of it is to do with the 80's and some of the 90's screeching. It couldn't be doing anything good to his voice.

Bounce/HAND tour his voice was crap! LH tour it was soooo much better. Although, when I was watching the MSG DVD, I did think to myself how much his voice has changed, in a bad way. Always & Dry County are still good performances but comparing it to 95, it's nowhere near as good

I actually thought his vocals were phenomenal at the UK shows I went to last year but watching the MSG footage, it's difficult to understand why the standard suddenly dropped when they went back to the States. The vocal performance on the DVD bares no resemblance to what I heard a few months prior to that being filmed.

If the smoking is to blame for the massive deterioration, I feel sad for him that he let a silly addiction wreck his 'gift'. Not many people are bestowed with the sort of voice he had and he's thrown it away as a result.

I just don't get this stance in the documentary about how he helped 'save' Richie from drink and yet nobody in the band has addressed his smoking over the years.

Richie talking about his late father:

"He left a big hole when he left me, but what are you gonna do? They didn't know smoking was bad for you back then."

I think everyone noticed it. Maybe he's practicing a bit harder. Good on him. It's just sad that it is still nowhere near his potential.

I wasn't talking about all time. IMO if you take that half a decade after Freddie Mercury's death I think Jon was the best mainstream rock vocalist. Up until the mid 90s. He had the range, the power and ability to rough it up. At the time people actually identified Bon Jovi with sublime vocals.

When you are at the concert itself you get carried away with the atmosphere; it's easy to think the vocals are better than they actually are.

To me that's the only time it truly matters though.

I've been to enough shows to know a good vocal performance from a bad one tbh. His voice was a lot better than the MSG footage offers up.

Just because you get carried away and are incapable of hearing a bad vocal doesn't mean that others are as well.

look at the always version played on the MSG DVD when he sings 'ill be there till the stars dont shine.....' he isnt even pronouncing the words, it sounds very babyish and he must know what he is doing. he tries to overcompensate his lack of power with that awful nasily voice that basicaslly ruins the song. he does it all the time not just during always.

looks like now the music comes second to the enterprise. as jon said himself the show is the 'easy part' even though he struggles his way through at least 30% of the songs.

would he be smoking an taking less care of his voice if he wernt as successful, or is he now not arsed about music and more interested in the longevity of his buisness.

i always thought bon jovi, especially jon, were down to earth people with everyday lives, thoughts and values but after watching the bonus DVD when we were beutiful jon almosts gloats at how he has built his empire and how the band just do as there told. Really i have little respect for him now, he seems to be just another Gene Simmons (albit on a lower scale )
