I'm not getting any of this... I thought Jon wrote a great song and did a great job singing in matching Pavarotti perfectly. I listened to this song a million times way back when and never had an issues with it and always thought it was perfect for what it was...

Sorry about the typo on the date of the performance. When I listen to it, it is not that Jon sounds bad at all but when Pavarotti starts to sing, his voice sounds so much smoother than Jon's. It is really a stellar voice.

Thanks BonJovi90. Now I understand why the two of them were singing together. I probably should look up other performers who sang with him at this concert.

Jon's voice was good for him, but it's obviously a different style of vocal that Pavarotti had to Jon being an opera singer so you couldn't "compare" them or have him "going up against" him as mentioned in the original post as it's a totally different kettle of fish.

What a treat! I love when every now and then there are outside circumstances that force Jon to sing songs in original key, e.g. TV playback or unfamiliar band.

Probably one of the last truly impressive vocal performances of Jon given how high it is in this key.

That was Jon's prime vocal period, as far as I'm concerned. A clean, high voice with rasp, when wanted/needed. Just briliant!

I'd say 1988-1998 was his prime! Ten years of excellent singing and generally great live vox!
