They must actively kill the tone, cos a Les Paul into a decent sound setup would sound great.

Although JIm is probably right, the human ear can only take so much input, and Richie's output is considerably more gutsy.

http://www.fender.com/products//sear...tno=0262600521

I'd have that, and then get something else for the thin tele sound

I wouldn't be surprised if the didn't use those Diezel amps at all. It's very ordinary for a band to put some amps on stage just for the decoration and to use a different one instead.

A good example of this is Status Quo, they have their full stage packed with Marshall amps while their sound is coming from a few Vox Amps who are behind the backline.

i don't see why he'd bother in such a small room though.

unless he was running some 30 watt or less class A amp behind the scenes but i'd imagine he'd have a much nicer tone using something like that behind the scenes...

re: quo. it got onstage with iggy pop once. his guitarist had 3 or 4 full marshall stacks and the feed coming from the monitor was louder than the amps themselves. i couldn't help but feel sorry for whatever roadie had to carry all that gear around just so iggys guitarist could compensate for his small penis
