When they went out on the road, they tuned down the instruments again and yet there was no way he was able to sing the songs like he'd sang them in the studio, which was what made people wonder about it in the first place, and eventually I think it was Rick Rubin, their producer, who confirmed theories fans had made up."
Could someone explain what this all means in a little more detail? Also, what is a 1/2 step?

Hey Felipe, How's it going? Have you enhanced anything new lately?

It means the guitars are tuned down 1/2 step (ie if you stay in standard tuning instead of the 5th fret, you'd play the 4th). It's easier for the singer to sing. Traditionally a lot of bands tune down 1/2 step when playing live, Bon Jovi included.

Well first of all, a half-step (or semitone) is the term used to describe the amount of pitch changing going on here. During their concerts, Bon Jovi have played a half-step down [from standard tuning] since at least 1988. It's just easier on the vocals night after night.

What is going on in Bon Jovi is that while the rest of the band is recording in standard tuning, Jon is singing the songs a half step down. Then, his vocals are raised up a half-step to match the instruments in the band, as opposed to singing in the actual key. This gives his vocals a bit of a sharper edge.

Hi, what's up? Let's see...

1 - We have 7 musical tones... dó, ré, mi, fá, sol, lá, si

2 - each tone has 2 semitones (half of a full tone), except fá and si...

3 - So, if 7 tones has 2 semitones each, except 2 of these 7 tones, we have 12 semitones (half tone) in total.

So I saying that Jon did recorded some songs using a base in a certain tone (could be dó, lá, si, whatever, it doesn't matter), and after this the engineer raised this recording in 1/2 tone (half tone). Just listen to the 'last chance train' that I did posted and later the one from Box Set and you'll see this diference of 1/2 tone in pratice.

I don't have any news... Well I tried to fix that 'Yokahama 91' concert that came out in soundboard quality but with noise, but it's work for years.
