Default Jons Voice

Everyone's thinking oh god another topic about Jons' voice. I have to post this because I have been thinking about it a lot in the last few days and am wondering what you guys think of Jons' voice now and in the last year. I mean obviously after these days and in to crush this matured older voice developed but it still seemed good enough between 97-01. What I have noticed is that in 2003 it was absolutely diabolical and until march/april 2008 it became extremely good better than anything since these days. I salute Jon for this effort as he obviously listened to the fans and did something about it which is really honourable as he did not need to as people would have gone to see him anyway. When you listen to him singing always in 2003 its beyond painful.

what im really getting at is, do you think his voice was shit since 2000+ until Lost highway in comparison to 80's and especially between 94-96 and how come it is so polished now? Is it a lot better than say crush era and if it is which it certainly seems to be can he maintain this for the next tour and if so does he really see a vocal coach. i just find it difficult to imagine Jon with a vocal coach.

Sorry to drone on just really want to know what others think!

Plenty of threads about Jon's voice already.

Answering your question though... Jon still sounded decent on the Bounce album but half of the tour, his voice was awful. From the 80's - 96, Jon still sounded great and got better and better every year.

From 2005-2008 the difference is unbelievable. You wouldn't think it was the same person really. On the HAND album & tour, Jon really was struggling to hit notes, obviously, he still is but he can actually hit them now. I have high hopes over the new album.

Every professional singer has its own vocal coach. Jon has it since Slippery days though. You should imagine yourself singing almost every night songs with those high notes. Without professional handle, you may find yourself mute next day.

It's all relative really. You find those singers that really abuse their voices on a regular basis tend to lose their range/power as they get older. It's happened to Roger Daltery, Robert Plant and Ian Gillan to name a few. I'll bet hitting the highs of Prayer, BoR and quite a few other Jovi songs has took it's toll over the years. Of course smoking can't help matters either.

Jon's voice was very very very good during the lost higway tour. I saw 3 shows in europe and his singing quality is what amazed me the most. I am really glad with this.
I think jon knew for himself that, having the capacity, he had to train and maintain his voice. Very good vocal coaching, good sleep & food and no cigarettes are probably the best explaination.

It's true that between 2000 and 2006 it was far less. That was a bit disappointing because, it's really painful when you have to bring alternative versions of your own hits such as always, i'll be there for you when it's not because of wanting to bring them different, but because it's the only way you can bring them.

I guess jon felt that he was a bit cheating on himself and the fans and in 2008 he was back on top. I think at age 47 you still have all posibilities to work on your voice. If he can't hit the high notes of LOAP when he's over 63 or something, then i'll forgive them

I hope Jon feels how much every fan appreciate the fact he really worked on his voice to get his vocal chords back in shape and he can really feel proud about it.

Now just a little note on the side: I've been to U2 shows were Bono's voice wasn't any better than Jon's voice during the bounce or hand tour. But on their DVD's it's always super. Probably they do a lot of mixing and editing when they record.

I cant' wait for the MSG dvd. It's taking tooooo long to release this
