It was the biggest tour in the world because the band played so many dates, Springsteen was touring at the same time but played significantly less shows.

U2 have also consistently been churning out hits since the 80's, Bon Jovi's last worldwide hit was it's my life.

In the UK Bon Jovi aren't played on the biggest stations, U2 still are.

So there's no question who are the bigger band.

Bon Jovi is really too stupid, they will not put best-of and live releases like U2.
And I don't know why people is comparing these two bands. They were always different. The changing music scene by early 90s favored U2 and sit still didn't change.

Bon Jovi is my favorite band. No question. But, I don't think there's really any comparison as far as which is better(as defined by 200 years from now which one will matter). Bon Jovi set out to be the biggest bar band in the world, by their own admission. U2 set off to be the best band in the world. There's a huge difference.

For my money, Bono has the best voice in rock. Still. He has his bad moments, but Jon has bad decades. I don't think anyone can objectively say that the singing on Crush/Bounce even holds a candle to the singing All That You Can't Leave Behind or How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb. Edge owns his own guitar tone. You can't say that about Richie.

For U2, music is a sacred sacrament. For Bon Jovi, it's something they enjoy and love but it feels equal part job. Because of that U2 will always be the better band.

I think it's an apples to oranges comparison. Bon Jovi is a party band. That's all they ever were. They simply became huge. U2, while having 'fun' songs, is certainly trying to do something different with their music.

They played about 100 dates. That's not that many.

Have A Nice Day? Who Says You Can't Go Home? Misunderstood?

Maybe someone in the UK can answer this, but it was my understanding that Bon Jovi was massive over there. Don't they always play, and sell out, any size stadium show in the country?

Sorry, but most of that is rubbish. Both of those U2 albums you mentioned were elevator music. Like watching paint dry.

As for Bono's voice, I don't know what you've been listening to, but he can't hold a candle to Jon in that department. Jon's voice is different than it was in the 80's, but it's still good. Bono sounds awful now.

Edge and Richie - Won't even get into it. Edge couldn't hold Richie's guitar strap.

I agree, U2 is trying to do something with their music. They have this desperate need to be relevant, and therefore, change with every album. Hey, that's all cool and stuff, but that doesn't make them better. Personally, if I like a band, I'd prefer they stay the same. If U2 released a hip-hop record, I'm sure you'd have plenty of people praising them for their creativity.

If Bon Jovi were merely a party band (i.e. Poison), they wouldn't still be selling records and selling out tours. That's a part of their repetoire, but that's not all there is.

None of those songs were hits in Europe.

And yes they can fill stadiums, but so can U2 , Metallica, Springsteen The Eagles and many other bands.

And as for your comments about Jon's voice being better than Bonos? that's ridiculous. Jon sings through his nose most of the time, "Bono has the voice of an angel" Richie said that.

I bet you haven't even listened to U2's last few albums, because they're far from elevator music.

Just goes to show what a sycophantic goon you are.

Id agree that U2 are the more relevant band, particularly in the UK, but that doesn't mean their music is better. I love everything from their debut to Joshua Tree, and even to Achtung, and as for live shows, Bon Jovi or U2, you can't fault either.

I would not agree that BJ are a party band, Poison are a party band. 80s party bands didnt make it this far, BJ are highly capable of changing style, form happy go lucky rock to more serious music, as highlighted in transition from NJ to KTF to TD. I also wouldnt describe much of BJ or 7800 as party rock at all. SWW is their only album that completely meets this description.

After Achtung, U2 have been releasing complete and utter boll*cks. Whilst i like a few songs from Atomic Bomb and All that you cant leave behind, they are comparatively poor, against crush and even bounce. Lost highway is a gem compared to their latest release, with songs like Get on your boots and no line on the horizon.

Bono is much better than Jon...as for Edge and Richie... Bill Bailey summed this up for me.

Richie is better technically but the Edge has the ... edge (ahem) on having a far uniquer sound.

Heres jovis attempt at being 'relevant' in the world. doesnt matter that it was not 2008, they would still deliver almost the same.

U2 cannot touch this. not even nearly while and its the sort of song they try to write.

jovi are poets and deep and just so much better. it really irritates me. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
