Granted I think he got a little lazy with his voice when singing live during the Crush and Bounce tours but I think he's gone for some high parts again (In These Arms) that he completely dodged in the prior two tours. Even when he doesn't sing the songs perfectly, at least he's still making the attempt.

Yeah I kinda see what you're saying. However, as many musicians out there will know, when they play live, they play every song 1 half-step/semitone down from the studio version e.g. Prayer is in Eb minor instead of E minor. That is, apart from In These Arms, which, in the studio, is in the key of E major whilst live it is in the key of C# major which is THREE semitones below the original. When Jon sings the 'Baaaaaabeeeey' after 'and these were our words, they keep me strong', the highest note is C# above top C, then the B below top C. So.....this means that live, the notes should be Bb and Ab, which should be fairly ok for Jon to sing. However, when he's been singing it, he completely avoids hitting the high Bb, even though its 3 semitones below the original!!
How does this justify him still having a good voice? Yes, he can sing in tune, but not as high as he used to be able to which I think is one of the bands trademarks. Also, when you say he's still making the attempt e.g. end of These Days, why?? There's nothing that sounds worse than someone trying to reach a note they can't........its the same story with the 'Livin', on a prayer' after the second chorus. Dave sang it for him in Amsterdam, but Jon sang anyway. He must know he can't comfortably reach it so why try and sound bad?
