Same here. I felt the same way you all did a month ago. But after seeing them in Atlanta, I have to say I was entirely satisfied with the show. I only wish they had played In These Arms, but I have it in several live versions to listen to when I please. I've been listening to Bounce again over the past few days. The songs have a whole new life to them when you hear them live. No matter what they play live, the still put on a great show.

The concert in Atlanta was wake up call for me. I've been disappointed reading current setlists, but I realized at the show that they know what they're doing. They aim to please people and that's EXACTLY what they do. When you hear people shouting, "That was awesome!" and "Bon Jovi rocks" as you leave the arena, you know the band has done something right.
That's not what we are trying to say. We aren't saying Bon Jovi doesn't please us anymore. We are saying that the setlists are way to predictable.
People will still be saying Bon Jovi rocks when Bon Jovi plays 5 rare songs that most people do not know.

I'm not saying they shouldn't play Bad Name or Prayer anymore, I'm just saying I'd like them to take some risks. Bryan Adams always takes a girl from the crowd when he plays When You're Gone. Do you think people will say : "Ah man Bryan rocked, but we don't want him to do that again." The same for BJ. If they'd say : Who can play the guitar, and some people say yes, then they could welcome one of those on the stage and play a song with that guy/girl together. That would be cool, and I think no one would hate such a thing. That sort of things would be cool.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

The question is - to steal a quote - when are BJ gonna stop playing brilliant 0-0 draws and actually play a set that wins? Answer: They can't! They play for the people who wanna see the classics and yes, I'd be pissed off if they didn't play LOP, IML, or BTBMB at a concert, but to be fair they aren't very inventive when it comes to playing a different mix of the less popular songs. I got the Girl is a fine example of an overplayed, underpar song.

You're sitting on the sidelines and judging a game you don't get to watch, don't attend in person and only read about the morning after on a website via a set list? The band knows what they're doing...
They're gonna promote the new album so they're gonna play the new songs.
They're gonna play a lot of the greatest hits because that's what fans there want to see. Accept it or not, the overwhelming majority of fans that come to Bon Jovi show sare NOT the diehards like the ones spending times dissecting every set list and statement the band makes.. it's the average Joe who buys a ticket to a concert because they know a bunch of songs by the band and the band has a reputation of putting on a great show. If the very small fringe element of diehards (but very vocal ones on this site and others) is unhappy, too freakin' bad, really....
Let's face it... it's NOT the new songs that are selling concert tickets. It's the old songs. The album in the US is not doing what it could/should... but the tour sells out! So all those people who bought concert tickets didn't buy the new album? What does THAT tell you. People want to see a show full of songs they know...and the average Joe Schmo can not tell you that the rendition of "Something To Believe In" that the band did in Mannheim, Germany in 1996 is better than the live version of "Hey God" that they did in some other country... A very fringe element of Bon Jovi fan can (or cares.) The band is very popular, with the general public and they're going to play to the majority of the fans in the venue.

Oh, but Eve of Destruction... that was a surprise but apparently too political?

a) i didn't say it was too political

b) You're sitting on the sidelines and judging a game you don't get to watch, ... only read about these posts the morning after on this website...

you miss the fact that this post was resolved about 3 days ago, everyone made their peace... then you stir it up again...

also as krb said read some of the other threads that are 30+ replies long, because all you've said has already been discussed there... and indeed on other pages in this thread

Well, I'd done a response to this, but it was deleted

Here is the gist.....

Bon Jovi should play to the fans, we're the ones who really keep them going, if we're not their, then they are just another pop band, trying to plug singles. Thus, they should prioritise us, and not the people who are just turning up, wanting to hear the hits. I feel insulted that this is where Bon Jovi's prorities lie, considering I've spent possiably into a £1000 in the past few years, and I'm being considered after smebody who's spent £3.75 on a single????? The band have made their money, why do they have to still sell out stadiums? I'd much sooner they advertise the tour as "no Wanted, no Bad name, no Prayer". I really like these songs, but Bon Jovi have tones of songs that aren't played that are just as good. If they did this, then it would be the fans who would go to the shows. Sure, this woudn't sell as many tickets, but it would allow the band to really give back to the fans, and do what they actually want to do! This would surely effect the bands performance, as if they were doing what they truely wanted to be playing, as apposed to just entertaining, then I think they would actually play better! (i'm not saying they play baddly now by the way)

Look at Deep Purple's last sets, the songs that got the biggest reception, were the rarer ones, the ones that the fans know. If you go on the message boards, teh songs that were apreciated most weren't Smoke, and Highway Star but....

Space Truckin' - revived after over 10 years absence
CHild in time - again, revived after a long absence
Fools - Never played before, recorded in 1971, and got it's debue in 98
Into the Fire - not performed since 1971ish
Bloodsucker - Recorded 1970, first played in 96
Strange Kind of Woman - revived after absence
......

This list could go on. My point being that the fans really apreciate these sorts of changes, but we're just overlooked by the band in the set lists!

I will respond to a thread when I read a thread and when I choose to respond to a thread - not when YOU decide I should respond. I have a busy life and this is not my entertainment nor my social outlet therefore, I will read these messages when I choose and I will comment as I see fit. It's a message board - I choose when I leave a message and what the content will be.
