I know a lot of people who've seen RHCP live and were all disappointed. I'll see them live in about a month, so by then I'll know what I am talking about.

I do own quite a few RHCP Cds, but except for "Stadium Arcadium", the guitar work on them just don't appeal to me. This is once again purely subjetcive, but to me it lacks soul and feeling. "Stadium Arcadium" has some brilliant guitar parts though and I cant stop listening to that Aabum. During an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, AK stated it was mostly Frusciante who wrote the songs.
Talking about Richie, his studio contributions since 2000 are lame in the extreme. He regularly manages to shine during live shows, but I think he's definitely wasting his talent...even though he's among the top guitarists on the planet and my personal fave.

I can't be arsed to read all this as it's mostly a matter of opinion anyway. And Tool suck ass.

But this has got to be a joke! Anyone who's played for 2 years can play anything Frusciante plays. He's in no way a good guitarist. He has an ear for melody, but as a guitarist he's really, really not good.

No this has got to be a joke. I don't know much about guitar playing but I've been to many rock-acts live, from Nirvana to the Stones, from Pearl Jam to U2, from Nine inch nailes to Bon Jovi and from RHCP to Andre Hazes (yeah that's right), a lot more....
IMO never anyone blew me away with his guitar playing than Frusciante, up to 5 times...
Next to that, I've never been to any live-act just for one band-member, I did for the Peppers, I only go their shows because of the awesome playing of Frusciante...
Especcialy his solo, i will post a few of youtube in that thread later...

...RHCP are great live...not comparable to BJ..too different...RHCP really don't seem to give a **** what anyone thinks..they just go out there and do their stuff..if people like it then it's a bonus.

BJ do care what people think and taylor their performance because of this.

JF is completely in his own world..it's like watching someone posessed...but I think he's good..very good.

Richie's...playin' is just so full of soul and passion and his persona invites you to join him on the journey! I have never seen another guitarist that can do that! It's incredible.

Been listening to SITT last couple of days...genius!

That is the trademark of a true artist!!! This is incredibly frustrating. Did you even see the interview Jon gave Oprah? He said he's never made a musical decision based on fans. If they like it and want to join the ride, it's fine but otherwise you get caught up in a lie. So give Red Hot some credit. They're doing what's true to their soul and all art is about self-expression. So what if the theme is esoteric/philosophical. Some are searching for understanding of the universe/meaning of life and on a higher wave. I think it's awesome. Just misunderstood by mainstream.

I see where everyone's coming from but in one way or another people do agree Richie can do so much more. He has said it's hard for him to get out of his comfort zone and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". But when meeting him, he did have a sense of ennui (inner angst) because he knows his soul vision was to incorporate all his influences into one and all of his heroes did exactly what was NOT expected of them. But he's not surrounded by people who will support him if he was to go that route. He's needed and it's easier to keep assuming the role so everything works but do you think he'd be downing vodka like there's no tomorrow if he was so incredibly happy and satisfied? NOT!

I don't down Richie as a person--maybe comparing him to someone on a totally different wave wasn't so good--but seeing him settle is hard. With all the pain he's gone thru, if he were to get away from all the superficiality surrounding him, he could create a masterpiece for the world to hear.

Never mistake what I say. I'm still Richie's most devoted fan--but I call it how I see it.

Don't give yourself too much credit...

I hate it when people think they know someone just because they know his name.

Whatever you want to think. But as a guitarist Frusciante is not good. Mediocre at best.
