It would be difficult to tie in the hard reality of homelessness with an ad for a luxury item like cologne. Any visual you want to use runs the risk of your promotional efforts being tagged as exploitive...a negative reaction would undermine the project's efforts.

Questions like "Did you give back?" could be universal...or personal...did you give back to your community? did you give back in your day to day relationships? Perhaps it works best with the "did you rock someone's world?" question which juxtaposes the crowd scene from the rock concert with the more personal picture of Jon rocking a baby...IMO opinion they work within the context of the ad.

Then of course there is that old Marketing 101 adage of "sex sells"...given some of the reactions I've been seeing to the ad...in this case it still works...

The charity aspects of the campaign are being handled nicely via the media, the RSVP to Help benefit and auction and by Kenneth Cole's website. The print and TV ads have their own place within the entire campaign. They are stylish and suit both the product and the media which carry them.

No I don't buy every product advertised. I am not sure how many men here would buy it cause Jon is on the ad. But the thiing is it gets the name RSVP into peoples heads and some people will buy it because it becomes a known brand.

The man is NOT a Bon Jovi fan...not by any stretch of the imagination...he put me on a plane for Toronto back last January with a smile on his face...cheerfully agreeing to hold down the fort (and our teenaged twins) while I went off to the Bon Jovi concerts...anything so he didn't have to sit through the shows...LOL! I hadn't even considered getting the RSVP for him...I was grateful enough that he lets me take a nice road trip every couple of years or so....

But after several days of this RSVP ad popping up during his favourite TV shows...he has begun asking about the product...have I had a chance to smell it yet? Is it just cologne or do they have an aftershave? (he's not really a cologne kind of guy) Is there anyone around here who is actually selling it? It's cool Jon is doing this stuff for charity...and the kicker..."see if you can get one of those scent sample things so we can see how it smells...if it doesn't bother your asthma...maybe I'll check this stuff out."

So is it a really strong scent Kat?
