I don't think that there is a need for every song to have a 5 minute long solo in it. But to have one Dry County or Next 100 Years solo per album would be great.
Think about it, we wouldn't appreciate the Dry County like solos that Bon Jovi (Richie) do, if they were in every song, would we?

Yes we would, as the point of solos is that everyone shall tell a different story.

Listen to Led Zep some.

I wasn't trying to say the solos were 5 minutes long, I meant the songs themselves in their entirety.

Only the weak guitar players have to show off with what they can do. Richie doesn't need that. That's why he IS the best guitar player in the world for me. He always played solos that supported the songs and not his ego and he's still doing the exact same thing.
In my opinion one of his best solos is the acoustic solo of Diamong Ring. It's so short and not much is happening but it gives me goose bumps.
Are you joking really ..solos are not ego..are you a guitar player?!! first I admire richie..but he is not the best guitar player in the world..this is a fan-atic comment..Do you forget Jimi hendrix ? eric Clapton ? + a long list..that I don't want to put here..too long...Richie has a "unique" sound..He is a "very" good guitarist..but in Bounce...sorry to say that but he is just trying to copy the nu-metal sound...which is shit!!

Dear,Bendpulloffhammer-on!What the hell is going on?
Couldn't you understand -there is no best guitar player in the world!!!!!!!!!!!
There is only favorite guitar player! That's it!By the way Richie's technique is a way better than Eric's(I'd want to say that I really admire "the slow hand")!
"he is just trying to copy the nu-metal sound"
yeah,Richie sounds on Bounce a little like Slipknot, but why not...ok I'd like great solos in Richie's old style..but there aren't a lot on Bounce(maybe only the solo of Right Side Of Wrong),but I still like the album! The album rocks...

Acutally Sweetie, no, I wasn't joking. When it comes to music it's always a matter of taste and I personally think Hendrix sucks big time most of the time. He might have been a great player and did a lot for the modern rock guitar but I don't like his style. Are you gonna kill me now? I love Clapton though but it's a different kind of music that you can't compare to Bon Jovi. So in this genre that we are talking about here on this board, Richie is the best guitar player for me. And especially in this genre a lot of times solos are there to please the players ego. And yes, I'm playing guitar myself. Feel free to disagree. It doesn't bother me.

Speak for yourself. I'm VERY happy that Bon Jovi songs are not filled with long solos. It's one reason I like the band. I don't generally like overblown guitar solos and would like the band less if their songs were filled with such noise.

Critics I say, some of you should be critics. Do any of you work for Rolling Stone?

People, get real...... I'm sick of all this negative stuff. Can we say anything positive?

I happen to think Richie IS the best guitar player in the word. I know he can outplay anyone, and his voice is awesome too. Though I enjoy Jon's voice more, Jon is no Richie Sambora in guitar, but he can hold his own.

Had Richie been the lead singer of Bon Jovi, and Jon the guitar player, I bet they'd be the same now. Jon could have developed just like Richie.

Now, if you're REEEEEALLY looking for solos, go to the first album "Bon Jovi".. It's my favorite album for solos.. I don't know why.. Just is.

As sad is it may or may not be the simple fact that you cant prove but cant deny cause anyone with a shred of intuition to read between the lines can see that....

The solo's on "all" of Bounce and the majority of crush are technically SIMPLE (lets leave taste out of this for a while) for the reason that it is "unpopular" to know how to play your instrument at the moment, and Bon Jovi are releasing what many people still consider hair music. So to kind of fit in, it makes sense to make solo's playable by a newbie guitar player on his fender squire, i'm not being derogatory i started on that exact same thing but hopefully you get my point. The majority of kids wanna play whats fashoinable and it aint so to be spending lots of time learning noodly solo's whther they are actually good or not.

Take Undivided, it has a short 8 bar solo, like bad name and prayer...however the acutal content of undivided is pretty boring compared to the other to. Technically and melodically "bad name" and "prayer" solo's suit the context of the song. Undivided is a BIG raahhh rock song (like the 2), so you'd think when the solo hits it would have if not technique, then at least be memorable. But its just a bluesy sort of improv. I mean its still a lot better than most of the pap in the charts and pop music today but its definately watered down from what bon jovi used to be.

Even right side of wrong, it has the longest solo, however its just not very impressive, again either the technical aspect or the melodic invention. Devices like call and response, and embellishment are hardly present, and where you think he's gonna go one place interesting with it..he stops before so. Sad really. I mean again its still great in its own way but I feel sad that they're holding back.

The Distance and Love Me Back To are another two examples where I feel like the guitar is gonna come in and then it never really does. The very short middle sections sort of just havea groove where nothing happens. Korn do this but they still have lots of different things going on underneath the power of the band groove together. Bon Jovi I think should have just stuck one of Richies bad ass solo's in the both of them cause thats what they do best! This was proved at the SBE gig, where at the end Richie rips over the tail end of Distance.

I guess we'are all just nit-picking though its amazing they're still going and i love all the new songs, be it diluted for radio or not. Its still Jovi, it still has heart, and it still has that Killer-Korus!!!!!!!!!!!

Long live the Bon Jovi Machine, I'm happy to be a cog
