Iceman - check out the video for yourself.

If you watch the intro you can see richie's exaggerated left hand movement where he is having to reach across from G to E strings.

No other way he could it in standard with no capo.

Song is definately performed in Em - you can tell by Jon/Richies chording.

Hmmm any chance you can link us? Saying it's an LP isn't a lot of info, the song was played with a Les Paul 85 percent of the time. Alas, I'm curious. Hmmmmm.

EDIT: found it oooh.

Ok, I'm finally home from work and able to take a closer look at the video. Interesting to see how much Richie had to alter the solo due to the change in the tuning.

I think he only changed the run-down in the 5th bar - the rest sounds fine. Overall certainly closer than some of the other perfromances where he used a capo and played in standard (or DROP D )

That's weird. Why would you do that - it's far more difficult? Surely he has enough guitars that he can have one tuned differently just for that song? My best guess is that he just thought the low E chug notes sound better than the higher E chug notes when played with a capo but I think the latter sounds better personally.

I thought it would possibly make sense if they continued into another track without changing guitars but he clearly changes to the white SG at the end. It'd be interesting to see what song was played before this one to see if it was for ease of not changing the LP from track to track. It does put an annoying gap into a set when we play it because of the need to change guitars both before and after playing 'Last Man Standing' with a capo which is why we tend play it either as an opener or closer before a break in the set.

Ok, by drop D, do you just mean just tuning down the low E string, or tuning everything one full step down?
