To me being an artist doesn't equal serious lyrics. It means being creative. Roses is essentially about a B**ch. Though the chorus of Roses is funny....it's also original to that end. There are plenty of songs out there that are about women like this....so if you are going to do one..be original.

I wouldn't tell anyone who wants to discover Bon Jovi's deeper side to just listen to the singles. They'd only get a corner of the big picture.

To take it further...look at Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar On Me. It was original when it was new as was most of the Hysteria album. I wouldn't decry for not being serious. Lyrically most of the Hysteria album was ...nonsense or campy. It was actually Sonically "deep." The lyrics to Women are absurd. But the delivery of the vocals, the guitars, drums, even the synth bass all came together to deliver an engaging epic.

I love the line "I know you like to think your shit don't stink..." I know way too much people who think that way. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

On another note, it's no wonder people around here have thousands of posts under their belt. There is this thing called an Edit button.

Now now, I had to start all over when I changed my name slightly so I have catching up to do. I would have closer to 1000 posts at this point otherwise.

Good point with "Pour Some Sugar...." Purist.

I am glad that for the first time in a long time, a debate on here hasn't gotten out of hand. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

It's because the fvcking backstagers aren't around right now since Bon Jovi isn't doing something. They don't take the efford to surf the net for news etcetera and don't end up here.

I haven't posted a reply in this debate but followed it though, I actually agree with all the things that have been said, so there was no need to come up with arguments to go against yours.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

That line is my favourite part of the song. Good, I'm glad Jon said that. Bon Jovi and groups like them are a dying breed. J HO(sorry, LO) and others like her, where's the talent? Hip Hop, J-lo, too much sex, vulgarity, sexism and most importantly uninteresting.

LOL i am so late ... I didn't visit Dry County for a while .... sorry ... hmm I could read the whole thread .. way too long for my brain today BUT i don't like when artists Jon or whoever are staisfied by bashing other ppl like them ... JLO Justing who cares he can hate them but saying this in a song ... it is soooo cheap ... sorry ...

But don't forget the song didn't make the album .. maybe it was because of this ... some ppl love to be aggressive offensive they feel like they live their life so much more intensively if they can bash attack others that's their choice it's not mine .. I have opinions I don't like JLo (i don't hate her and don't hate anyone basically) I love BON JOVI but I think Jon is a good singwriter enough to not NAME ppl to show is bitterness .. I can feel his pain about the music world but his attck toward the other music workers is not OK in my book ...

Some ppl said they don't feel offended good for them I am not offended I feel more like sorry or embarassed .I understand ppl who are feeling offended or embarassed that Jon felt the need to talk soo clearly like if we couldn't have get the message without a name ....

Not to fussed about statement jons trying to make, just like the song. One of the better songs they written recently and def was good idea to pull from tlfr as woulda sunk without trace amongst dross on there, whereas on a "normal" bj album should stand out as the great track it actually is!!!
