To be honest I think I'm about the only one who's stilll buying every CD I want instead of making a copy or downloading it.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
I don't believe the downloading is hurting the music industry as much as we're being told. For example, through my downloads I have discovered a lot of artists I would never have through ordinary media and I actually buy more CD's now than before, because when I really like, I buy.
Plus what I download without buying I would never have bought anyway, and I don't keep it or share it massively. Most of my friends do the same.

The music overall quality going down, the media promoting always the same performers, the difficulty to discover new artists, especially when you're not in a big city, etc... all these, and other things, hurt the music industry much more than the download.

How am I apparently someone who downloads?

Damn right I download. But I also buy CDs. What Metallica did was bullshit. You see it one way, I see it the other way. Metallica attacked their fans and for a band that started out swapping tapes they shouldn't be so quick to say that downloading was wrong.

So, unless Jon says he wrote that line to mean something different I'm going to see it the way I want. You can read into it whatever you want.

And Eminem is rap. Hip hop is totally different.

Also, big fat WORD to ponrauil.

A big round of applause.

Metallica did not attack their fans. Fans don't download, fans buy stuff. This has always been the case. Metallica attacked people in general who downloaded their stuff. And you can tell me you see it the other way, please give me an explanation why and refute my argument about the car mechanic. You can't.

You are reading into it what you want right now. Why would Jon say something about Metallica and their actions against downloading in the same line when he's attacking different the uncreative music styles and the people who love them ? That makes no sense.

i don't think it's offensive but even if it is i don't care. in fact i prefer bon jovi being offensive rather than being the good and sweet guys. :P
but as i said i don't think it's offensive when compared to what hip hop lyrics always state.

Ooh you're wrong. You're talking about rap. Hip hop is totally different according to Raine who completely missed the point about that sort of music.

There are bands that are creative and innovative, but most of them take it to extremes and therefor the real rock feeling gets lost. Thoguh Aerosmith tryed on Just Push Play with all the drum loops, but it didn't work. Bon Jovi tryed on Crush with the drumloops but it didn't make the songs any better, Bounce was even worse when it comes to that.

I think lots of older bands have lost the plot a bit. Take a look at all the big artists from the eighties and nineties, most of them release weak stuff compared to their usual standards. U2, Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Oasis, none of them are able to deliver good stuff, most of all because they've lost the feeling they had when they just started or their interests have changed. Still they try to get back to it while involving new ideas. Sad enough, most of the time it just doesn't work.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
You know, I found that I enjoy some of hip-hop/rap stuff tremendously. I really like some of their arrangements, ideas for songs are nice. Overall sound is cool. As I said I enjoy Sean Paul. Also Shaggy is great. Outcast.
Overall I think they are more inventive than rock artists. And that's why they are more successful now.

Indeed, "old" rock atrists cannot get it together. And new rock artists seem to be satisfied with simply rehashing what was done in the 60-80. Think Jets, the Drakness, The White Stripes, Coldplay (lame version of U2).

So it seems that the development of rock music has come to a halt. And, of course, hip-hop/rap/pop take advantage of that.

I just hope that "old", accomplished rock stars like Bon Jovi (I don't have much faith in new artists) can get their act together and start making statements with their music. Well, I can to an extent appreciate Crush. At least they tried to become competitive. They should try harder though.

Perhaps you still have not found right (for you) artists yet.

My initial reaction and still my reaction is good for Jon- needed to be said. I think by hip hop Jon means the manufactured J Lo variety and not the street poetry of Eminem. Hey (ya) I even like Outkast and I really don't like hip hop While the rap at JLo may be a bit unfair- she is certainly not the only one out there- in a recorded version I would prefer she be left out of it. The song to me is about how the few singer/songwriters out there still making music like Bruce, Dylan, Tom Petty, my recent musical rediscovery Jackson Browne, are few and far between and not much good to take its place. I agree that new rock is not moving the genre forward. I am glad for Jet who make rock and roll and not just grunge inspired depressing stuff which permeates the airwaves but there is really not much to be excited about- all been done before. Jon pulled this song because he felt it was too harsh and negative. It could be interpreted that way but I think the point he and Billy Falcon are making is so true and sometimes the truth is not pretty. The song does sound country rockish but I love country rock- the beginning sounds actually like Bob Segar's Turn the Page.
