No, I meant in these genres of music.

I kinda have an opinion that there exist no "bad" genres - there exist poor artists.

i think there exist both bad genres and bad artists. it's just that in some bad genres there are some very bad artists. i will never like hip hop/rap because i like music and not noises. and even if a hip hop artist is better than another he will not be good enough for me to listen. simply because i don't enjoy this kind of music.

I think people are taking the words too literally. I think Jon is just expressing what alot of people think about todays music scene. The record companies are more interested in making a fast buck by signing these 'pop-idol' sorts that will maybe have one successful album then disappear. They very rarely sign 'real' bands and musicians that may take 2 or 3 years to become successful ,and if they do sign them their dropped after 1 album because it fails.
Jon himself has said it wasn't included on the album because maybe it went to far and revealed his bitterness towards the music business.
To me this song is no worse than the likes of U2 and Coldplay shoving their political views down peoples throats throigh their music. It's called having an opinion!

I'm all for lyrics having a cutting and meaningful edge, I just dont see the need to actually name someone such as J-Lo. It just brings the band down to a level where other artists will be all for have a pop back at them.

They should be old and wise enough to not want to get involved in any slagging matches. Perhaps Jon was trying to be a bit controversial for more publicity?

If you listen to Jon describe the song, he ISN'T referring to himself, but aritists like Bob Dylan, Bruce etc. Not once did he say the song was about Bon Jovi in particular.

And you guys are taking the J.Lo comment way too seriously. She is the prime example of how music has turned totally corporate today. You can't get much more corporate than J.Lo, who has never even sang live, EVER. She is a product of corporate music through and through.

I doubt it being that nobody except the people here are talking about it.

Actually, Jon does say "....and Bon Jovi" just before the song starts. Take from that what you will.

As for downloading, downloading, for me, is like test driving a car. I wouldn't dare go to a dealership and buy a car without driving it first. Thanks to downloading I can do the same with albums now.

I did read into what I wanted. But so did you. Neither of us knows what Jon or Billy Falcon had in mind when they wrote that line. Like I said, take from it what you want and I'll take from it what I want. It's fine if you think I'm wrong.

Yes he does include Bon Jovi in his list of "last bands standing".

I find it funny that you don't have problem with the fact that Jon put Springsteen next to Dylan (sorry Bruce), and Petty next to Bruce (sorry Tom). But you have problem with Jon when he put Bon Jovi next to Petty.

Firstly, as many others said, it's not the actual lyrics.
Secondly, I wouldn't call it offensive if Bon Jovi ONCE do what many others do permanently (one example: "I hate Jon Bon Jovi, but I hate his music more" Bloodhound Gang).
And, Bleeding Purist, you said you found nothing special to the song. I think that's exactly what's so special about it. Understanding why you feel it alittle offensive, the song is very straight and down-to-earth musically and doesn't claim to be more special than others/other artists. I think this reflects the honesty of the lyrics.
