HOw is that going to happen, when the only people who will ever hear it is Bon Jovi fans?!
He pulled the song from the album for a reason.
Name me ONE thing the band have EVER done to try and get more publicity?!

While most of you feel he is being honest...that's the problem. I don't feel he is being honest. It would make more sense if it was for certain that he was singing about Dylan, Bruce, Petty.....but it doesn't come off like that. Nice try Mousebounce, but Jon refers to his own lighting director for a reason, he's singing about his own band. Bon Jovi is guilty of the same crimes he is accusing those others. However, I see Bon Jovi as a band that mixes art with commercialism. I don't see anything wrong with it. It is hypocritical to point the finger at others.

Hip Hop embodies Rap, so those comments made that they are separate is untrue. Rock and Roll embodies many sub-styles, fashions, ways of living/being...as does Hip Hop. To dismiss an entire genre as irrelevant is incredibly arrogant. He may as well replaced Hip Hop with Country.

It is also untrue that Hip Hop artists are uncreative and only sample music. It has been done often, but it is not the rule and the notion is simply parrotted by those who do not know better. Notably both The Roots and Outkast use completely live musicians with the former being an actual band with permanent members. The list goes on beyond them.

I don't buy the argument that the "real" lyrics are different. It just further proves my point. "Pop Rock" is often applied to Bon Jovi's music. Don't waste your breathe trying to go "Oh you are wrong, it's Pop Metal." Both terms have been used. Even if it was just "Pop Metal." Well....how is that better?

I wish I could feel that Jon is making an honest statement from his heart...and I don't doubt he is disappointed with the Music Industry of today. But he went over the line and called the kettle black. Knowing he is not an idiot....it leads me to believe he thinks his audience is. He would be correct though because most of his audience doesn't really know anything about Hip Hop and they routinely slag "Pop Rock." So of course, they'll nod in agreement and applaud.

One more thing....I know what Jon's overall statement is and I completely agree. The recording industry is now led by people who know nothing about music...believe it purely product...and the concept of artist development is alien to them. Take out that one damning line in the song and you do have an honest statement.

Now I have to listen to the song again. I want to hear what Bleeding Purist hears.

Okay, I did miss the point. What was the point about that type of music? What was your point? Did you have one? Is hip hop bad? I don't think so. I don't think hip hop artists have the same appeal as rap artists. Eminem, Fiddy Cent, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg. That's gangsta rap. Outkast, The Roots, Rascalz, that's hip hop.

Actually it wasn't a try, but what I thought. As it seems I am wrong, then I apologize. Even if Jon does lump BJ with those bands, so what? Yes, BJ (notice I criticize the band not just Jon) is guilty of trying to be mainstream, but that isn't a bad thing. It is called survival.

BJ writes and sings their own songs, so does Dylan, Bruce, Petty. That is what the song is about. Being true artists. J.Lo, Britney and Hilary Duff types have songs written for them and lip sync more than they sing. That is what the song criticizes, people who are created by corporations to fit a certain image and have a team that makes sure they maintain this image. Last I checked, BJ doesn't fall under this category. Trying to change your musical style to change with the times and being a puppet while the big bosses pull your strings are two different things.

I don't see BJ pointing the finger at commericalism or hip hop at all, but instead at this cookie cutter artists out there today. Maybe you interpret the song or that J.Lo statement differently, as we all do with the various songs we listen too.

That again would appear way too gooey, like a kid in amazement that trills about its favorite star.

I hope you don't tell me that you get that out of that line, do you? I've never heard one band member saying anything similar.

No, but I will waste my breath asking you why you don't go further with this argumentation? Means, who told you these lyrics exclude Bon Jovi? Don't tell me it's because the title is Last Man Standing and it obviously refers to Jon or the band. Well, that's true or might be but the lyrics support the title and not the other way around, i.e. not all lyrics support this one "junk" line. Hell, it's just a line in a song. Are kids not sleeping anymore because of I'll sleep When I'm Dead? Or is Livin' On A Prayer offensive towards atheists?

Could be, but where's the big deal?

If you tend to see this line as arrogant it makes it just more honest. How can you be arrogant, voluntarily, without being honest?

I find it funny that you don't have problem with the fact that Jon put Springsteen next to Dylan (sorry Bruce), and Petty next to Bruce (sorry Tom). But you have problem with Jon when he put Bon Jovi next to Petty.
Looking at these artists attitude, it's coherent in my mind to put Springsteen, Petty and Dylan together in a batch of "last dinosaures" that, unlike BJ, have always stood aside the "all marketing" music business we see today.

Well, he made a statement. You are free to feel about it any way you want.

I guess Jon just does not feel about his band the way you feel about Jon's band. That's the difference.

He probably refers to The Beatles and U2 and Def Leppard in this song as much as he refers to the artists he listed in the DVD.

Are we talking about the same Bruce and Tom Petty?
