None of them sing it, it's played from the tape, hence it sounds identical at every show for the past few years.

David has been singing the high part you're referring to in Prayer for years. If you see them live it's obvious....watch it and you'll see too. I've been lucky enough to be in the first couple of rows for several of their concerts the last few years in front of Hugh and David.

Yep, it's Dave (and us ) who takes the really high bits in the chorus before the solo and then Richie often sings the high bits with Dave afterwards. It's definitely not the same at every show, I went back and watched a few recordings and it's obviously different from show to show, someties Richie dose em all, somtimes he dosen't.

As for TOTP's, the band don't play live but Jon dose sing live. For some odd reason they'll allow you to sing live but wont allow to play your music live.

Default nope

i watched it, there's a part (which is really funny) where richie's singing "livin on a prayer" he looks really disinterested, lol, and then walks away halfway through the vocal-though his voice is still heard. i have no idea why im picking on this so much...maybe i feel like a hypocrite now for always putting down artists that do lipsync...

Brijovi...jon may have had a a track playing while singing the pre-bridge, "livin on a prayer" part too...clearly im disecting this a little too much.

If they had been lip synching at Live 8 then Jon wouldn't have missed the first line of Prayer

it's much easier to mix a backing track to vocals in a studio with crap acoustics than do a full band. the band themselves probably asked for it like that.

better to "look stupid" than sound like shit.

the backing vocals are defiantly pre-recorded, but in live performances, sometimes they just don't synch the audio with the video properly and it looks as though they are lip-synching.
