The heyhey part is totally annoying and makes the song sound cliché and boring. I never really understood why they like it THAT much. It's one of those songs that try to sound meaningful but fail miserably at it. The bridge is decent and I don't mind it live every once in a while but it is totally overplayed.

It's a good song. It's Jon saying what he always says in a cleaver way.

Never liked it... and every time I hear it, I like it even less. The bridge is the only thing it has going for it. Certainly one of my least favorite songs on the album and probably my least favorite that they play regularly. WAN and WWBTF are close though.

The thing is, I dislike it live but I also dislike WLOL live, when I actually really like WLOL on the record... the same goes for MAM. Kind of weird. And the exact opposite goes for ILTT. Not a big fan on the album, but it is a guilty pleasure live... yeah, I said it.

The song itself is not horrible, but it's among the worse of the post 2000 pure pop songs they wrote (Misunderstood and Say It Isn't So are better for example).
LH isn't even in the same league as Misunderstood and SIIS. I have never been a huge fan of Misunderstood, but I think it's brilliant compared to LH.

And as far as SIIS is concerned, tell me a time since they have written lyrics that "outside of the box". That song, at the time was so fresh. Not their best, most serious work, but I think it's a great song and would welcome more like it.

I think the lyrics are fun but not nearly as ground breaking as you do. I can think of plenty of post 2000 songs that are different than the usual shlock.

I think it's groundbreaking for Bon Jovi. I can only think of a few post 2000 lyrics that don't sound typical. There's never been a Bon Jovi lyric remotely close to this:
Superman don't fly
They did it all with strings
Elvis Presley died
They deep fried the king
Like some tacky cheesy bathing beauty
Dancing on the beach in a bad b-movie
Say it Isn't So

Actually, One Last Cigarette and Postcards are the only two (post 2000) that are clever and/or outside their comfort zone that comes to mind without thinking too hard.

Bon Jovi lyrics have always been typical Bon Jovi lyrics. Some are certainly better than others. Bad Medicine, for one, I think is exceptionally clever. Letting You Go is one of the best of what you might expect coming from the mid-90s Bon Jovi. Undivided and BrokenPromiseLand are two great examples of post 2000 great BJ lyrics. They just do what they know how to do.

However there are a few that stand out as being different. Like the 1st verse of TD and the verses to TAALS. And Bed of Roses and Postcards are two of their masterpieces IMO and also very different from anything else in their catalog. And while I don't think that SIIS is a masterpiece, I'd probably list it as their most unlikely Bon Jovi lyric.

Unfortunately, as a live song it's dull as dishwater. A definite switch-off moment. Would be happy to never hear it live again.
This pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole LH album. Great to listen to on CD, infact I did yesterday, live however the songs are just a bit meh.

'Lost Highway' back-to-back with 'Whole Lot Of Leaving' live is something I, selfishly, enjoy. I realise it's probably a downer for most of the audience but for those seven minutes I am happy.

It shouldn't, but it undoubtedly does.
