there are some software's that can fix some of the clipping, but when a song is beyond compression(in Bon Jovi terms, everything after Undiscovered Soul 98 edition), you can't really do anything about it, the only way to obtain a proper non-compressed version is by obtaining the multi-track files, which are not available..another alternative is ripping the audio from music videos(from dvd..especially the ones which have dolby) since the audio in the music dvd's is not compressed at all, in fact it is the exact copy of how it was recorded.
the biggest letdown was that Obie thinks that it's just normal and that he's doing nothing wrong...there are other guys(Butch Vig...Nirvana, Garbage) who admit to compressing the song(on artist/company's) request, but at least they admit that it's not good, Obie on the other hand tries to act like Bono or Bob Geldof when I try to ask him the very same question.
in the words of some user from hydrogenaudio forums:
"The "top guys"*, even if they're making squashed records (for whatever reason), don't mind the criticism. But the mediocre guys**, who are just copying everyone else - they don't like to be made to feel so insecure!"
*guys who originally started/promoted this compression(whoever was responsible for Oasis Morning Glory's post production)
**Obie O Brien,failed comedian,now a music "engineer".
here's what some Depeche Mode fan has to say about DRC->
